How has Nick Saban never had a player go first overall in the NFL draft?

That's wild when you look at the amount of first round guys he's produced throughout his career.

Edge Rusher and QB have probably been our weakest NFL positions in the Saban era. And those are like 95% of #1 overall picks

Closest he got was JaMarcus.

Also Bama hasn't really had a player you can look back on and say they even SHOULD have gone first overall.

With this draft I do think we will look back and say Evan Neal should/could have gone first.

this years top 5 had a few edge rushers. So I think he has a shot at number 1 depending on the teams need. If the first pick needs a QB in a bad way then you wont see him go one.

Maybe. If a QB needy team has the #1 pick then probably not. And I kinda feel like Bryce is gonna be ripped apart for his size and Stroud will be considered the better prospect

Yeah, his best chance for that might be next year...but if CJ Stroud has a good season and the team with the first pick needs a QB, probably won't happen...

But also, Ohio State QB.

Depends on teams needs. If the Lions fail this season and end up #1 then they will get a QB. No reason for Goff to fail with Jameson, St. Brown, Chark, and Hockenson.

I don’t see the lions being #1 though.

And I don’t know if you can pass up on Will Anderson anyways. Especially if the #1 team already has an elite pass rusher, imagine if you have 2…

I don't know how I feel about Stroud, but I wouldn't want Bryce as my NFL QB personally. Obviously a great college player, but I feel like he is going to play to the team around him and be productive, but not necessarily elevate it. If you're picking high enough to take Bryce, you want a guy that will elevate your team.

Bryce elevated our team a great deal last season. We were basically down to 1 RB and a shitty OL and we almost won the NC.

I guess he just sucks at developing players!

I’m kidding

Sometimes he did. Once his WRs went out, he didn't really elevate the other guys. Jameson and Metchie elevated Bryce more than the other way around IMO.

I also think elevating a team in college and the NFL are different things. A lot of guys can make the throws, but theres a constant need for QBs in the league anyway. And I'm not even saying I think Bryce will bust, I just think he will be closer to Kirk Cousins (who gets shite on but actually has been a good/very good QB at times) than he will be to a Rodgers, Mahomes, Allen, etc.

He is a truly great QB. Given how small he is, I wonder about his staying power in the NFL, but he and Burrow are 1a and 1b of all the college QBs I have seen in the last ten years.

Should have a really good shot at having a #1 overall pick in the 2023 draft between Will Anderson and Bryce Young. Obviously it partially depends on what team is picking first and what that team's need is.

Honestly I think he's what every casual fan acted like Mac Jones was. Olave, Wilson, and Smith-Njigba were so laughably better than B1G corners and safeties that it was like watching someone play NCAA Football on Varsity Mode

2023 may have 4 or 5 QB's go in the top 10.

How is it that "Grindin" Brian Kelly has never had a #1 draft pick?
