The Women's National Championship between South Carolina and UConn was the most-watched women's title game in nearly two decades, per
@ESPNPR

-4.85 million viewers
-Up 18% from 2021, 30% from 2019
-Peaked at 5.91 million viewers

For comparison to last year's College Baseball National Championship:

Wednesday’s deciding Game 3 of the College World Series final (Mississippi State-Vanderbilt) averaged a tournament-high 1.67 million viewers on ESPN2

People don't realize it but technically women's basketball is Big Three. I still like and support baseball much more, but we suck at that right now.

I noticed they advertised the women's tournament almost as much as they did the mens this year bc of the 75th anniversary of Title 9, wonder how relative that is. Also helps that it was played on the weekend I'm sure

That’s cool and congrats to the Cocks.

Made me think of something - ESPN doesn’t even have a college baseball tab to click on. I think that’s bs it just falls under college sports. The little league World Series has a tab for God’s sake.

I'm not trashing SCAR here, but take away the relentless push for women's basketball by major sports entities and it crashes considerably.

I think it's an open question whether college baseball would get comparable or better numbers with an equivalent media push. I still think CBB is a fairly bad product so it's hard to be confident (but WBB is a horrendous product, so there is that). College softball is probably the best of the three as far as actual entertainment value.

You’re comparing womens basketball to a sport that may as well not exist outside of the southeast.

There’s a reason they played those guilt trip ads during the mens tournament about how womens sports don’t get as much media attention.

It’s because people don’t care

I have college baseball season tickets for South Carolina, but I don't purchase them for Women's basketball. However, it's abundantly clear that the majority of the country could give two shits about college baseball.

I don't even know if my school's women's team was any good.

Soccer is the most boring venue on television followed closely by golf....and yet they thrive because of the exposure they receive. The women's basketball market can be huge. There are more women than men in the world and their buying power has increased greatly. The networks are finally figuring this out. It's going to get bigger....

if the entire media force fed baseball down our throats they do with WBB I'm sure the numbers would be different. During the height of march madness if you googled "NCAA Tournament" it took you to the womens bracket

Every single commercial break and media segment was so heavy-handed.

People acting like media coverage is holding college baseball back is quite hilarious. It's a mediocre product unfortunately. And that's coming from someone with a pretty successful college baseball program.

Your numbers make it abundantly clear they don’t give a shite about women’s basketball either, and that’s with a ton of national advertising done for them
