I’m talking about spring breakers from Yankee states.

Tennesseans are annoying enough, but sprinkle in dozens upon dozens of tags from Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan?

Well, I 65 becomes a shite show

I saw the first hints of it today - patches of orange and red on my google maps where the dadgum road oughta show blue!

Sigh, several more weeks of this, and it’s gonna get worse…

10yrs ago my family made the decision to do our vacations to the East coast of Florida. St Augustine, Crescent Beach area. Water is cooler, breeze is cooler, white sands and they allow you to drive on the beach if you got a rig to handle it.

I load up the F250 with everything we need, find a spot you like on the beach, park unload and relax. I’ve been sold ever sense.

I like the gulf, but it’s still so crowded now can’t really enjoy it any more.

My wife (god rest her soul) loved Crescent Beach, St Augustine. Not the same with out her but still love that area

I live in orange Beach and work in Mobile. Traffic has been a shite show for a week now. I was hoping high gas prices would keep people home but no luck

We started renting my condo again and it filled up from March 12 all the way until Labor Day weekend within a week. Orange Beach will be Destin in 10 years if not sooner.

True. We are moving to Loxely. OB and Gulf shores mayors and city council are getting rediculous.

Having lived in Loxley for 45 years, welcome. I do live quite a few miles out of the city limits and I'm looking to move because we are losing our country life.

People from up north have two years of no vacations to get out of their system due to giving in to the fear peddled by their state government like cattle.

This is going to be a very busy summer season.

It's been a madhouse since we opened the beaches back up after the first lockdown. Like I said Orange Beach will be Destin very soon and it is a shame.

Ironically the first Yankees I noticed at GS/OB (around 2004) were Missourians.

I've strategically kept my mouth shut in Pennsylvania about the Alabama coast. Idgaf if they outright own North Carolina and Ocean City

All Southern States's welcome centers need to bring in extra dumpsters to handle the excess disposed masks.

It has a very long way to go to be a Destin but that’s a good thing imo

Eh... given their status as coquina mecca of America, this can't actually be true. Not that i don't love the area, but you're walking through several yards of crushed shells getting in or out of the water. St johns county does have a larger amount of space between the water and dunes though. I remember when they'd let you drive whatever you wanted. Pushing folks out of ruts was a highlight of old school beach days.

You ever make it to Washington oaks state park/garden? It's just south of Marineland, so like 10 minutes from crescent. Ginormous coquina formations on the beach side of a1a, and a garden/nature preserve on the intercoastal side.

Amen. Worst time I’ve ever had at the beach we were surrounded by drunk, loud Cajuns the entire week. Couldn’t get away from them.

I-65 is a shitshow on the weekends right now. It's ridiculous how awful it is on Saturdays & Sundays in the Spring & Summer.

It's straight-up dangerous in many spots

We started taking backroads a few years ago in the summer. We maybe lose an hour, but the scenery is nicer and traffic is much more manageable. Got tired of white knuckling it from Bay Minette to Montgomery.

Day after the 4th last Summer, we got up at around 4am to best the traffic back Bham. I've never feared for my life while driving but Georgiana to Montgomery and then Clanton to Shelby County was full of stupid. Just scary how aggressive drivers were being. Pretty sure we looked back on the map on Waze and saw streaks of red. Saw a story that night that a toddler was killed in a wreck. I dont what it is about those two streteches of interstate that invites wrecks.

The congestion beach bound traffic in/around Bham is ridiculous on it’s own. Not sure if there's any fix for this other widening the interstate but that's a 10+ year project.

I don’t really notice it in Birmingham but I don’t travel 65 very often. They did just complete widening of 65 in the Alabaster area, after widening it between 459 and Hwy 119 a few years ago. But that stretch between Clanton and Alabaster gets bad.
