In terms of brazen/stupid actions by a coach. I know the Death Penalty was dished out twice in hoops, to Kentucky in the ‘50’s for gambling and to Southwestern Louisiana in the 70’s for a slew of actions, including academic fraud.

Teams that self-imposed a death penalty were Long Island U for gambling, Tulane in the ‘80’s for paying players, and U of San Francisco in the 80’s for several violations.

Below that, we have Kentucky in the 80’s, and probably the recent Louisville scandal.

Some of these involved rogue head coaches, and some had coaches that were probably clueless or powerless, like the point-shaving scandals.

What Wade did is about as dumb as you can get. It’s up there with Pitino, Tates Locke, and others that simply didn’t give a shite.

Cajuns are well documented to be dishonest and untrustworthy.

An excellent synopsis.
For the conference's sake, I hope they don't destroy the program. Even though it's an embarrassing situation for ALL the SEC teams, LSU is an old, and recognized program that has provided great traditional episodes for the conference, and their quirky fan base's personality has added to the uniqueness of the conference.
Punish the guilty, but don't kill the institution.

It's definitely leaps and bounds worse than some of my younger teammates getting books from the bookstore.

there have been some egregious violations...but this one seems bigger than just basketball.

The entire athletics program seems to have been running amok... Tennis, Football, charges of rape, free-bird if you feel like playing in today's game or not, opt out, "injury," fake covid epidemic, quit, start, RTFU, STTDB, coed-coach-grass chewing, team voting, head kicking, bar fighting, harassment, naked pictures, weird behavior(go look at video of Coach O coming on the field at Alabama last year... jogging, detouring through the lines of the Alabama band, majorettes, and cheerleaders...WTF? Can you imagine Coach Sabin or Bryant doing that?)... the lack of discipline and control throughout the program has been a question mark for a long time.

Alleva was partly responsible, one of the most incompetent, egoist, fools to ever run a 500-million-dollar company. This situation with LSU sadly may be a lot worse than just basketball.

SW seems intent on cleaning house and trying to get a distorted bent program back on the rails. It doesn't help that half the LSU fan base thinks cheating stealing lying dissembling is ok if you don't get caught. That widely held attitude is one reason we all loved Gov. Edwards and his honest 10 percent, and live boy or dead girl statement in this state.

I think it would be tough to find scandal with a dumber person at the center of it. Some may call it sloppy or arrogant. But, it was just fricking plain stupid.

This melt by tiger fans is ranking much higher than I ever imagined for a coach that didn’t win jack shite as a HC.

The fact that he cheated doesn't bother me. But using your cellphone and a joint checking acct with your wife to pay it? C'Mon man.

I, as an Auburn fan, am disgusted by the level of these allegations.

I cannot believe anyone would stoop to the level of paying players to play basketball for your team.

I am so glad that none of us other, fine upstanding universities, have ever resorted to offering money to basketball or football recruits.

There is almost no room left on our pedastal of perfection that we stand upon and use to look down on LSU.

Let’s all give a warm golf clap to ourselves and pat each other on our backs for being such great followers of all the rules.

It'll be interesting if they let LSU keep their 2019 SEC title.

80's Kentucky the "Bills for Mills" era was the worst I've seen in the SEC.

Overall. NOTHING will ever top SMU.
Fixed salaries to players
Involved everyone from the asst coaches to the frickin governor of Texas.
So bad it lead to the dissolution of the SWC.

Now, there was the old death penalty which was an option for any infraction. That doesn't exist anymore.
In 1985 the NCAA instituted the "Repeat Violator Rule" that we call the death penalty. It says if you have major infractions leveed and within a 5 year window you have another major infractions penalty, you are eligible for the death penalty. I don't think LSU falls under this unless the football and basketball are being treated as two seperate entities and are being investigated by two seperate organizations tied to the NCAA. Its hard to say but I dont think so but either way they would have to fall under REPEAT violator.

This notion that the NCAA can just hand down a death penalty is just not true. Its an NCAA Bylaw that you have to be a repeat violator.

With all that said, there will never be another death penalty.

I don't see what the big deal is tbh. He wasn't even that effective at it. As for the 2019 football stuff.... please. NCAA is the biggest joke and best example of blatant hypocrisy that i can think of.
