I seriously doubt she is a traitor to anyone, we have a lot of American athletes that play for countries they have ties to. She is trying to raise interest in winters sports for women in China.

It is. I too am from two different countries - U.S being one of them. I was never a good enough athlete to make a choice like Eileen Gu, but I probably would have chosen Thailand over the U.S, if I ever was given such an opportunity. Calling an Asian woman a traitor to the United States because she happens to be from China absolutely feels racist. Just because she chooses China, doesn’t mean she chooses the Chinese government just like if someone chose the U.S doesn’t mean he chose Biden. The reality is that her choice was probably financial and had nothing to do with her loving China more than the U.S - she can make a lot more money as a celebrity in China then she could ever make here. I am just sensitive to any Asians being called traitors, especially Chinese because there has been a lot of racism against Chinese over the last 4 or 5 years.
If she competed for South Korea there would be no problem.
China strikes folks wrong for many reasons now.

Paolo Banchero - let’s blame Duke!
Born in Seattle, his family has Italian roots, and Banchero has received an Italian passport, and he's eligible to play for the Italian NT.

You may be Asian but your most definitely not from two countries. What country was you born in?

This girl is not from China. Her mother is from China and her Father is from United States. Ms. Gu was a born a United States citizen not a Chinese citizen.

So why is it that when someone don’t like someone else or another country it’s because they are racist? Well I can assure you I do not like China or anything they stand for and that does not make me a racist. I didn’t like Obama as president and I wasn’t a racist. Have you spent significant time in a foreign country other than the United States? I can tell you I can and that I chose to move voluntarily to an Asian country for 2 year and loved every minute of it and loved the culture. I can also tell you this Asian country didn’t like China either, and by your logic they must be racist also huh?

That's a fair request.

All that is fair. But she is clearly being used as a prop by a communist regime that’s human rights record is disastrous. This isn’t the same as you choosing Thailand over the US. Or Armando Duplantis choosing Sweden over the US. There are other significant issues at play here.

There's another 81,283,098 that I wish would join her in China

You don't see the difference lol.

She almost certainly got a special dispensation from the Communist Party leadership for representing China. The reason she sidestepped the question is because it would be politically unpalatable in China and she would catch shite on Weibo.

Did someone ninja anchor this thread?

I’m looking for your point. You are correct that there wouldn’t be a peep if she were Latvian or Italian. Latvia and Italy are very different than China.
