Who cares? If you have marketable skills, you can be whatever citizen you want to be. That’s some of those certain unalienable rights at work.

Why are you so angry over this? Telling people to go frick themselves over this issue is asinine.

Disliking China isn’t racist.

Shows you what a good education can do to give your children opportunities they wouldn't normally have. If her mom had gotten that Masters at Bama, she might be playing softball for the Chinese.

You still haven't explained why you're telling everyone to go frick themselves. This appears personal to you.

Eileen Gu's mom came to America and her first stop was at Auburn to earn a Master's degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Now her daughter is a traitor for the homeland. Thanks Auburn.

Lol, this coming from LSU!

It’s pretty simple. She took a HUGE payday to be used by a government that tramples human rights at every turn. It was a money grab, pure and simple. If you’re OK with that, you’re ok with that.

It is. I too am from two different countries - U.S being one of them. I was never a good enough athlete to make a choice like Eileen Gu, but I probably would have chosen Thailand over the U.S, if I ever was given such an opportunity. Calling an Asian woman a traitor to the United States because she happens to be from China absolutely feels racist. Just because she chooses China, doesn’t mean she chooses the Chinese government just like if someone chose the U.S doesn’t mean he chose Biden. The reality is that her choice was probably financial and had nothing to do with her loving China more than the U.S - she can make a lot more money as a celebrity in China then she could ever make here. I am just sensitive to any Asians being called traitors, especially Chinese because there has been a lot of racism against Chinese over the last 4 or 5 years.

My mom used to work in AU admissions… she said back in the day tons of foreign/Asian students would pick Auburn bc it was the first decent engineering school in alphabetical order… without knowing anything else about the school.

Just because it makes you emotional doesn't mean that it has anything to do with the race of a person. People still have pride in their country when it comes to athletics. So it definitely feels like a snub when you leave the US.

Would say that choosing to compete for a totalitarian regime with horrific human rights records is a good bit different...

My understanding is the Chinese people dont respect her and you can only have one passport if you are Chinese ...

I honestly was disappointed too when I heard she chose China - but at the end of the day, I can’t fault her for choosing what she feels is best for her and her family. It’s hard to argue against money.
