We were talking the other day about some of the best college bars and two that were in Athens many moons ago were listed in SI as top 5 when they were open, Omalley's and Lowrey's. Omalley's was on the river, witha very cool setting. When I wnet there Bill Goldberg was a bouncer, and he even had hair. Lowery's was famous for their Nickle nights on Thursdays. Took getting pissy to another level, and for just 50 cent. What are/were some of the best bars in your town?

For South Alabama it was Leo Brown's near Brookley Field where the frat houses were. Fandango Saloon near campus came later, the Thursday night spot to make weekend dates for parties.

There was two eras for omalleys (corrected), when it opened it was cool, then went down hill in the mid 90s. I lived in Rivermill so it was an easy trip for me.

Lowerys was good to start Thursday night with nickle night but we ended up at Uptown or Washington street Tavern

How could Lowerys be awful. Cheap booze and Cheap women. What's better than that when you're that age?

Typical tigerland behavior. There was a video of Jeremy Hill cheap shotting a drunk kid like 1/2 his size and then walking around like a badass high-fiving people after he probably broke his jaw.

Reggie’s, shady’s, Fred’s etc all good for having about 1/2 inch deep of spilled drinks and backed up toilet water on the floors at all times and getting cheap shotted in the parking lot.

This isn’t the own you think it is.

Tigerland was tailor made for 18-21 year olds

We were probably there about the same time. I lived in the building closest to the pool and looking out over the shoals in the river. I only went to O’Malleys once though.

I had friends that worked at Uptown Lounge when I arrived in Athens (I transferred to UGA at age 21) and got a job there as a bar back and door man. I stayed in Athens 5 years and worked there for 4 of those years. It was a very popular bar for a few years.

For my time in College Station… I enjoyed the Tap and Texas Hall of Fame, RIP.

I always thought the chicken was overrated! It always had a bunch of olds and tourists in it.

I should note, don’t think any of these bars ever made any national lists… Just my two cents.

Chicken was always a snooze fest. I feel like all the fun bars kind of rotated out every 4 or 5 years. Northgate is a decent bar scene as a whole just no one great bar that stands out to me.
