Either 2018 Alabama or 2011 lSU
2018 Alabama had the chance to be the first 15-0 team, but they suffered a 44-16 blowout loss to Clemson in the Championship game. Prior to this game, I heard the Gumps swore this was the best team of all time.
2011 LSU was impressive playing probably the toughest schedule in recent history. They beat the Big East Champs, Pac-12 Champs. What is crazy that the Big east champs beat the ACC champ in orange bowl and the Pac-12 Champs beat Big 10 champs! LSU even beat the eventually national champs Alabama that year. Just didn't win the last game.

2011 LSU
2004 Auburn also considered. Went undefeated and beat 4 top 10 teams: #4 LSU, #10 Tenn (which was ranked #15 in the SECCG rematch) and #8 UGA in conference play and #9 Va Tech in the bowl game.

I think the 2016 Bama team was Saban’s 2nd best squad here. The defense tied or outscored like 8 of its opponents

2004 Auburn is almost always the first to come to mind. For obvious reasons.

2016 Alabama if we’re talking abCS playoff era. There were several football teams you could add to this list from the AP poll era.

2012 A&M
New coach. New conference. New QB.
Took a while to sync, and got hosed a little by the hurricane, but by the end of the season, they were rolling.

I'd have to say 2004 Auburn just because Jordan Jefferson was the QB for LSU 2011.

All you have to do is base it on which melt was the hardest. 2011 LSU obviously.
