Every defense to ever play a 15-game season in CFB (has only happened in the playoff era) ranked by total points allowed in the season:

2021 Georgia - 153
2016 Alabama - 195
2018 Clemson - 197
2019 Clemson - 203
2015 Alabama - 227
2017 Georgia - 246
2016 Clemson - 270
2018 Alabama - 271
2021 Alabama - 302
2015 Clemson - 325
2019 LSU - 328
2014 Ohio State - 330
2014 Oregon - 354

*2017 Alabama didn’t make the SECCG, so they only played 14 games to win the title that year, however, they still allowed 167 points, so 2021 Georgia still tops that in both total points allowed and points per game allowed.

Defense still wins championships

Hmm. It's Georgia week. So I won't challenge it. Congrats again!

That is pretty damn impressive, especially considering that almost a third of that points total came in one game.

nahh. Alabama, with 2 healthy receivers, pounded that defense in the SEC title game.

In fact, Alabama's defense stifled UGA's offense better than UGA stopped Alabama, in both games.

That actually is very impressive, and not trying to take anything away from that feat, but it did seem like the SEC offenses were pretty bad this year. Auburn was complete crap on offense this past year.

2021 Georgia, 2018 Clemson, 2016 Alabama, 2016 Clemson, and 2015 Alabama seem to stand out among the others.

That 2016 Alabama defense average scoring almost 7 points a game. As in they scored some many non offensive touchdowns, that is what the defense average scoring a game.

Alabama would have won 8 games that year without the offense ever scoring a point.

It looks impressive on paper but is really only relative if every team played the exact same schedule.

This is the worst national championship team since 2014 easily, possibly the worst since 2003, it was the weakest playoff field we've ever seen coupled with the easiest regular season schedule of any champ in the playoff Era (although 2018 clemp has a damn fine argument themselves) but yeah killer D bro

Yep that was a solid game but can Georgia do it again with that defense ? After lsu 2019 season with the defensive wiz guy off to a head coaching gig, lau was no where on the map when coach Aranda left. Will Georgia follow suit ? Remains to be seen I got my popcorn ready

My impression is that you also played the weakest opponent offensive schedule, but I admit I could be wrong. It might be helpful if you also posted the average rank of the offenses played for each team each of those seasons.

That said, I think you had an outstanding defense.

LSU’s defense sucked the first half of 2019, but was much different and improved after the Bama game. Overall, they were an adequate defense.
