Since the apparent OC (Davis) is going to target him in the portal, here's a video of Slovis. I belive it to be a net upgrade if he were to transfer AU, and he may stick around for two years.

Kedon Slovis

He was a projected high draft pick before his injuries.

Based on what I’ve looked at, I’m fine with Ward, Gabriel, or Slovis

Not going to be overly excited about any of them but if we get one I can have some sort of semblance for hope next year

I don’t see it as an upgrade unless our OL is dramatically improved. Slovis is definitely better with a clean pocket but Bo’s legs saved our arse over and over

Slovis is an upgrade regardless. Lets not confuse the fact that even with a clean pocket, Bo Nix was not Aaron Rodgers.

he looks more accurate than Bo on a lot of those throws - i keep thinking back to him overthrowing guys in the PSU game. but the point about a clean pocket is still a valid concern. i guess we'll see who we end up with in the coming weeks.

i'm happy with ward or slovis. i think gabriel is already gone to UCLA.

Slovis has unbelievable pocket presence, which is some of the reason Nix bailed and scrambled so much. Nix didn't have very good pocket presence and would hardly ever step-up, and would usually bail right at the first sign of pressure. He was so good a runner this year that he rushed for <200 yards.

Is this who On3 (Hoke) was talking about?

This right here. I don’t think it matters if we have no quality OL

Yes. Being in PAC-12 country I've watched USC play a good bit. Slovis was amazing his freshman year. He played so well that Daniels (UGA) couldn't get back on the field. COVID cut the PAC-12 season in half for his second year, but if you projected his numbers they would be someting like 35/14 TD/INT. This year Slovis missed 5-6 games totally and was not healthy the entire year. So maybe the injuries and the INTs would be of concern and would need to improve. But he's a legit upper-echelon QB that projects as an NFL QB.

Prior years I agree, but outside of the UGA game this year and a couple times in the second half in the A&M game, he hung in there much better and didn’t bail until he absolutely had to

He has experience and should fit in Harsin’s system. What about his injury history though?

Just read that Slovis was coached by Kurt Warner in high school.

Good footwork, good mechanics, moves around in the pocket ... sounds like the anti-Bo.

Just this year IIRC. He took a shot against Wash St. early and screwed up his neck, but he eventually made it back after missing 1-2 games but not fully healthy. Then he had a leg injury (non-knee) where he missed games 9-12.

He was also 2 time All-Pac 12 and took USC to the Chamionship game during the Covid season. He absolutely torched Utah as a freshman. Really he torched everyone that year.

There's a Part 2 that's helpful to watch too. ( QB School - Kedon Slovis Part 2)

My opinion is that this kid would be a close-to-perfect guy for Geriner to sit behind for a year or two. One of the most important things for freshman to learn once they get to the next level is to maintain fundamentals when things get hot - or put more succinctly, how to slow the game down.

In every one of the clips, Slovis maintains good pocket presence, goes through his progressions, and holds a good base, even when he has defenders bearing down on him. Bo got better at this, which is why he improved this year, but he was never too comfortable in the pocket - certainly not to the degree Slovis is.

Is Slovis perfect? No - but he is more accurate than Bo and has better fundamentals than Bo. That's what Geriner needs to sit behind before running the show.

Looks like a great fit for Harsin's offense and could be a great addition.

ETA Slovis's ability to maintain composure will certainly be tested behind who we have now on the line...

The most incredible game I've ever seen a QB play against Utah. They made him look like Warren Moon. BOMB. BOMB. BOMB. TD. TD. TD.

Slovis played behind a poor USC OL but he also had better targets to work with. He is also somewhat mobile.

I think he is a typical Boise/BYU type QB and Geriner is a similar QB.
Harsin should get his QB and then call the plays. I would have preferred Bo but it is Harsin’s show.
