I feel like the top candidates that get cited the most are 2008, 2012, and 2018. All three of them were truly exciting games with national championship implications.

Yep 1992 was hard to top. Just so much riding on the game combined with a great game, when all eyes were on the SEC to see if this conference championship game was going to sabotage the conference.

Instead, it sabotaged and corporatized all of college football.

The one that aggy won, because fantasies and science fiction are much better than reality.

2001 LSU vs TN. LSU heavy underdog with TN headed to NC game with win.

2012 was a thriller. It was back and forth all day.
2018 was a classic as well.
Unfortunately, most SEC championship games have been blowouts lately.

2012 is probably the greatest college game I've ever watched, period.

To me the greatest game I've ever watched was the 2015 NC game. It literally had everything, ko return, interception, long runs, great catches. Back and forth game all game.

As everyone is proving in this thread, the team you personally root for factors in heavily to your feelings on this topic. I agree that LSU-Tennessee 2001 is the best I’ve ever seen, but of course I’m going to say that. I wasn’t emotionally invested in any of the other games listed, so like 2012 for example: great game and I’ve been a fan of Alabama my whole life, but when it ended I was like, “Okay.” and didn’t think about it again until just now.

2001. It was the closest to a SB III or 42 like game because the favorites usually win in this game.

2013 Auburn vs Missouri.
Big offense.
High scoring.
Underdog (Mizzou) trying to topple a giant (Auburn) in college football.

I made a top 10 list of games that were fun to watch. The 2001 SECCG is high on my list because I always enjoyed that LSU team ending the Vols title hopes and doing it despite losing their starting QB mid-game. The 1997 game is forgotten by many but it was a very competitive game. 2013 and 2020 were basketball on grass games that were highly competitive. 2009 ends up having a lot of meaning for the nature of the conference over at least a decade if not more. Set the stage for Meyer leaving Florida and was the launching point for Alabama’s Saban-era dynasty.
