Miss State: Why did you guys abandon the Air Raid?

The Air Raid was just coming into its own. The Pirate spent three years recruiting, building, and coaching players into that system. And it was working.
Your QB, RB, leading WR, and all 5 starting OL are seniors. It's the only offense they've ever run.
And from what I've heard you guys basically ran it during the spring. But with a few new running plays and some different looks.
Then you start fall camp in August with a Pro style offense. You have the wrong players for it, and you're last in the conference in offense.
Where did this come from? Where is it going?

I’m not sure any fan who posts on the rant has those answers…

The new offense has basically neutered Rogers

My guess is Aranda doesn't know the Air Raid. I would easily assume Leach was the one calling the plays during the game.

Gotta have a Pirate to run a proper air raid.

IDK. But it won't end well for them.

Decision makers at Miss St. after hiring Arnett

It is a puzzling question. A good offensive coordinator will adjust to his players. Keeping the Air Raid and just tweaking it a little would have been much better IMO.
Then next year you can transition the offense.
Most of our offensive players are 4,5 or even 6 year players. Keep doing what they have been doing and just add a couple of wrinkles.
It was successful last year. And you are right, this year was the year that Leach was building towards.
But I am just an alum and fan. What do I know?

Sorry....Arnett.
Should have been obvious who I'm talking about and just mixed up the names.

Nobody knows. Only idiots wanted to get rid of the air raid. Hope they're happy

I don’t know why you wouldn’t just hire an OC that had worked with Leach and knew his system then slowly transition away

Beginning of the season I was looking at stats and saw Rogers marks from last season and was legit worried about the Moo game. Was wondering the same thing as OP during the game.

Truth be told, if we we're going to change, I either wanted it to be wildly successful or completely abysmal. Because it's the latter, I'm hoping Dan comes back.
What's really hard to understand is why we completely abandoned a couple of Air Raid route concepts.
It's like our coaches are allergic to 5 yard slants.
Creed had a rushing and receiving touchdown in the first game, and has been virtually non existent ever since. Mike Wright has gashed defenses, but can't get more than garbage playing time. The OC is a disaster and has pretty much already lost his job barring some massive upset, which is a pipe dream at this point.
I always saw this as our Matt Luke hire, but damn, I'm starting to think Luke did a better job at Ole Miss.

Understandable. I did the same thing in my “Jimbo has lost control of his Bama team” thread.

While Mike Leach was, Mike Leach, there are plenty of Air Raid disciples who could have continued with the system.

Yea that was confusing to me too. Arnett gonna get canned before he can recruit and implement his idea of an offense.

Arnett is stupid. You have an offense that was built one way, so you hire complete opposite and change it.
He was better off hiring an air raid guy and letting him run that and he just kept the defense in order

He should have remained Interim, MSU appears to have rushed their decision due to saving their recruiting.
