If Nick Saban wants to hire Jeremy Pruitt at Alabama, he shouldn't let NCAA probe stop him

Tuscaloosa News - I’m unsympathetic to Pruitt’s Tennessee fate. The NCAA's findings point to a coach and a staff that sloppily flouted rules governing impermissible benefits. Coaches who lose too often while coloring outside the lines don’t last long. Pruitt’s contract provisions, combined with his actions and failure to monitor his staff, gave Tennessee ample ammunition to fire a floundering coach for cause and without buyout.
And yet, Pruitt remains stationed in something of a college football purgatory while this NCAA case proceeds at glacial speed. Wednesday marked the two-year anniversary of Pruitt's firing, and he hasn’t worked for a college program since then. In the meantime, NCAA rules evolved to allow athletes to profit off boosters, collectives and companies for use of their name, image and likeness.

While NCAA rules evolution does not excuse all past shenanigans, it seems silly that Pruitt, 48, remain handcuffed in perpetuity while the college athletics landscape does not reflect the one in place during Pruitt’s tenure. And so, if Nick Saban wants Pruitt to reprise his role as Alabama’s defensive coordinator or as some other defensive coaching aide, then he should make the hire.

Chicken would NEVER stoop this low! But for those who support Alabama, nothing matters to them when it comes to how to stop Bama from losing to both Tenn and LSU in consecutive years.

Yeah the horror stooping so low to hire Pruitt. Next thing you're going to tell me some SEC program stooped so low to hire Freeze as their coach

Both of Auburn’s primary head coaches have served show causes. One was under an active show cause when he was hired.

Ain’t nobody gonna make me feel guilty about Bama hiring Pruitt as a coordinator if it happens.

Maybe if we hire Pruitt, get charged with a bunch of Level I violations, and start the season 3–5, we can just self-impose a bowl ban.

Stupid thread. Toppmeyer doesn't work for the Tuscaloosa News, and Pruitt won't be Alabama's next DC (maybe an analyst is Saban's halfway house).

He's the best DC Saban has had at Bama. I know good Jeremy is reformed and very sorry for his actions. Plus, he never killed a guy.

Pearl couldn’t even recruit (legitimately, at least) the first six months he was getting paid by AU.

Pearl had to self-impose recruiting restrictions and scholly cuts due to the shady shite his Asst HC Chuck Persons was doing behind His back.

I hope Coach hires JP tonight and gives the impotent NCAA the finger. NIL dealings running rampant with wide open and public contract negotiations (UF/Rashada) to the tune of millions and the NCAA’s bent over some horseshite McDonalds bags to a few players. They’ve got Will Wades wife allegedly paying from her personal account and they’ve stalled the process?

Piss or get off the pot NCAA because programs aren’t sitting back waiting on you.

Gol*ing is history and BOB will soon be. None of the talking heads seem to have a clue who Bama's new coordinators will be.

I like that picture. She owes LSU a bunch of money for her frivolous lawsuits.

I'm sorry, but this thread is about Alabama. Why are you making this about Auburn?

That being said - the coaches served the show causes and Auburn already knew the fate of Pearl when he was hired. The guy had a few months left of no recruiting and that was it.

You are getting an unknown with Pruitt.
