These kids played their hearts out all fricking year. They were fun to watch. They clearly loved competing and mostly winning.

And you know what?

That was a complete rebuild job by Bruce Pearl.

Jabari Smith, Walker Kessler, KD Johnson and Zep Jasper. All new starters. Wendell Green. 6th man. Brand new.

And all of that after having Sharife Cooper and JT Thor drafted last year.

I hate losing tonight, but I love this team and everything they gave for Auburn, it’s fans and the university.

War Eagle.

We aren’t going to win every F’n game.. yeah, the way we ended the season with multiple losses sucked... losing this game was tough... but we did win the SEC Conference Championship this season. That is noteworthy for AU Basketball without a doubt. Be proud of what these men accomplished and support the next squad up as we defend the title.

This is like a participation trophy thread. You can do whatever in the season and it really doesn't matter. What pissed me off is AU look unprepared to play in the biggest game of the year. We looked like we didn't even want to be there. Played horrible offense and didn't play with the fire on D that made us who we are. You can say whatever you want but that was absolutely pathetic from Bruce down. We had an easy road to the elite 8 and we looked like a NIT team.

What a shite take. I don’t think Bruce missed 20 layups tonight or the staff.

We ran into a well coached, veteran team who really was not a 10 seed. They played lights out. You could tell they wanted it more

It seemed like the team got worse with each game after we became #1.

I am really pumped for the SEC title, but losing in the second round like this was an objective failure for the season.

So you think it was a well coached game? We looked out of sorts from the get go and Bruce failed to adjust anything. Didn't call timeouts when we needed them. I love AU and Bruce as much as anyone but tonight was pathetic. No point in being soft about it.

I fully understand. We were suppose to represent the conference as being the best team. I can respect a hard fought game where we get beat. It's exactly what you said. "They wanted it more" and we acted like we could just coast. Effort has been what made this team and they looked lackluster in the most important game.

I’ll appreciate this year a lot more after tonight. There will be time for that. This should sting for the players most of all. A great opportunity slipped away tonight. Could’ve made the elite 8 beating a 15, 10 and 11 seed.

Having Trey Alexander decommit and Desi Sills fall through really hurt down the stretch. This team needs a few shooters in the offseason than can create their own shot.

Jabari is going to be a great pro but he loved to catch and shoot, he will develop that part of his game. Wendell doesn’t have the speed of Jared or the killer instinct, KD was really hot/cold, Zep was often timid on offense, AF/DC don’t really need to be explained. A waste of a year where Auburn’s path to the elite 8 was JSU, Miami, and Iowa State.

great season, not even mad. Wish they would have played better down the stretch. I think they peaked too early

SEC Champions. Cant take that away from them tho

I don't know enough about basketball coaching to really criticize Bruce and it may just be we didn't have the Joes but given how obvious our issues were if he didn't correct them in the numerous practices over the last six weeks he wasn't going to correct them in a timeout or during a halftime.

We run absolutely zero offense compared to what I've seen from some other teams in the tournament.

This right here. I think some of the criticism about our offense this year is fair. I don't feel like we have a ton of great half court sets compared to other teams, but I think that has always been how Bruce's offense operates. Let your guards play freely with confidence, let them drive and make decisions, spread them out and make open shots. That's all we were doing during our Final Four run, we just had a more experienced point guard and few better shooters.

At the end of the day, we ran into a well coached team, with a bunch of veterans, that was a tough matchup for us. Oh well, that doesn't take away how fun the regular season was. I think we totally under estimate the value of experience and veteran guards in a single elimination tournament. I'm honestly excited to see KD, Wendell, and Zep in this tournament again next year, after playing together for 2 years. And we aren't going to replace to Jabari and Kessler, but if we get a few more guys that knock down 3's, with our guards having another year of experience, I think we could end up with a team that is more dangerous in Bruce's system.

I don’t blame Pearl or any of the players.

What we observed down the stretch was that we had weaknesses that made us struggle in so many games especially away.

Our guards are small and can’t hit the outside shot well enough or consistent enough. They are also not quick enough other than KD and he doesn’t dribble inside based on what he sees on their D but on his speed and strength to take it inside. Feast or famine.
Noticed Wendell didn’t go inside much which created better shots for others.
We didnt play well away from home and Miami lost more games at home than on the road.
Miami’s guards were quicker than ours and are in the top 5-6 in country on least turnovers. We were not even on top 50.

Yeah, same, although today I'm over it. Fun season, tough ending, but that's going to be life if we're a high level basketball program. I hate we didn't get to add at least another Sweet 16/Elite 8 to the program resume, because those things are important. But that's also why it was crucial to hang on for the SEC title, so at least that happened.

If we're all honest, this team was not playing well enough to challenge for the title. That said, last night was something different and worse, and that's very unfortunate. I'm not sure we beat Miami either way, but I think the team even in its lessened state had a decent chance to grind out two wins to get to the E8, but the blunders last night were way too much to have a chance.

Exactly, that’s why it stung me so much was the opportunity we had to go to an elite 8. This team wasnt a true title contender.
