Not sure how Bill Obrien is an upgrade over Gus

There is a reason Obrien is without a job right now.

There’s also a reason he is/was in the NFL

The reason being he was given the opportunity and money to be a GM & HC in the NFL??? Not sure how you can fault anyone for taking that.

I thought he did pretty well at Penn St (from what I remember) considering the shite storm he inherited.

Throw the bank at Christobal

Then Fleck

Then Napier

If it gets past Napier, just shut ‘er down

It was a counter to GenesChin. Not a negative

He was there due to one good season as OC in NE. He was a con artist at Penn State. Feed those kids the family BS and talked them into staying while he jumped ship first chance. He was terrible in Houston.

Listen I’m not going to defend the guy or pretend I know a whole lot about him.

But if you’re coaching in the NFL, you’re a damn good coach. Especially when you’re rapidly moving up in Bill Belichick’s organization.

And to act like he was terrible in Houston is just a flat out lie.

Sandman this is what I posted in another thread today earlier...

My list if it went down now

Cristobal - not sure he would leave Oregon for AU
Joe Lombardi - saints QB coach
Jeff Grimes - former AU OL coach current BYU OC

Coach G - just ride out Saban and hopefully stack talent so maybe the job is more appealing not going against that monster across the state

I'm not as high on Fleck because I think he's a strange dude that probably the Big10 is best for him or somewhere like that. I don't think he's a "great" recruiter either but is a solid coach.

Same, but it's worth a shot

first-time HCs make me nervous, but it seems to have worked out well for UGA, soooo

I'd love to hear why Grimes? I'm not necessarily opposed to the idea, but he wouldn't have even been on my radar

I agree he'd be a bit of a risk, but he's a good coach and I think would have a high ceiling at a place like here if he could get it figured out.

I also wouldn't hate going the Clemson route and giving TWill a chance, honestly.

Didn’t Grimes retire so we hired Grimes then ran Grimes off for Grimes to come back?

I think we let Grimes go so we could bring in Grimes but then we fired Grimes and then later rehired Grimes just to fire him again

Why Jeff Grimes?

I think he being a former offensive lineman, offensive line coach, and now an OC that he's worked himself up the ladder. He is also familiar with what the expectations are at AU and how the ins and outs work here. I think he would bring a more workman like attitude back to AU where we try to beat you up instead of trying to outsmart you. Even if we don't run some antiquated system. I think he would also be a CEO type and probably focus on what he knows best as far as on the field and that would be the line of scrimmage.

As the face of the program I think Jeff is well spoken and more football coach like then some others if that makes sense. I also think he understand recruiting and you need the Jimmy's and Joe's and not trying to find pigeon hole type players to fill a role you thought up with ketchup bottle and salt and pepper shakers on the dining room table.

Just my opinion about Coach Grimes.

Brannigan you sound like a fool with your diss on Coach G. Give it up no one believes it and it sounds ignorant. But yes if we aren't getting a true upgrade in coaching then I think if we are just moving on to be moving on and Saban is still at bama when we make the move use Coach G as a stop-gap and let him do his thing. He came home when momma called and he still at this point even getting older could name his own DL job at just about any program in the country.

Yeah, a guy that won 4 NFL division titles in 6 seasons isn't an upgrade from Gus.

Get the frick outta here...
