we still have Bruce because of him. That is far from useless.
I've never been an AD in my life, and it doesn't look like I ever will be, but I could kept Bruce! Hell, anyone could. Bruce wanted to stay. Sit down with him, find out what it would take to get him to sign a lifetime contract, then hit up the President and the boosters. It's not rocket science.

1. He still got the deal done.
2. You’re conveniently ignoring the part about Leath gunning for Pearl and AG stepping in.

I don’t think AG is the greatest AD of all time but I also don’t think he’s an incompetent lame duck like some on here. He’s had some misses and he’s done some good. It appears Harsin is the first big miss and it’s likely going to cost him his job. Once he’s let go (or gets hired somewhere else) we will likely hire internally and go back to how things have been for the majority of Auburn’s history.

Again, I point out that ANYBODY could have done this. The key is/was, did Pearl want to stay at Auburn. Since the answer was yes, then it's just a matter of convincing the PTB to meet his price. While that may seem them most difficult part, it's pretty easy too. 1st ever Final 4 appearance, sellout arena, and current #1 ranking.

As far as protecting Pearl from Leith, I don't buy it. I think Leith was an absolutely horrible president, but I doubt ADAG was the one that made Pearl's retention happen. The deep pocket boys most likely told Leith to sit down and shut up. Same group that are sidling Greene right now.

Yes AG had nothing to do with Pearl staying. He almost lost his job a couple of months BEFORE AG started here.

Cool, so all bad things that happened are AG’s fault and all good things were people going over his head. Good talk.

Only "bad" thing I see ADAG doing, is signing off on hiring Harsin. We have Kirby on one side of us, and Saban on the other. What do we do? Hire I guy who doesn't like to recruit and has no ties to the area. That was just plan stupid. Now we are on the cusp of firing him, and trying to get out of the multi-millions that he is owed......AFTER ONE frickING YEAR! Talk about the atom bomb of dumb decisions!

If you'd like to point out all the "good" things Greene has done in his tenure, the list will be short and extremely meh.

You can't fire Pearl, if that would have been the case, just because Person was arrested. We would have to have waited until Person was indicted.

ETA AGAIN, it was discussed ad nauseum about how Leath wanted Pearl out and AG was not in favor of that.

Leath got canned when he started running his mouth about Pearl thinking he had the leverage to do so…not knowing that that the fans were still 100% behind Bruce. The fans know there was nothing he or any coach could have done to stop what happened with Persons. If an assistant wants to line his own pockets what is a coach going to do to prevent it from happening.

ADAG is telling people he wants to stick around.

I guess the interviews fell flat so he’s gonna ride w/ the success of our non revenue sports.

Love ya Jang but context of those rankings…

Isn’t there like 6 teams that compete in Equestrian?

Gymnastics a great improvement but those wheels were put in motion when we upgraded coaching years ago plus the fall of Georgia and partially Alabama.

Softball and Baseball rankings are still middle of the pack SEC. Neither will compete for an SEC championship.

Tennis, golf, track and field it’s hard for a south eastern team to be bad. Still for the most part not competing for real championships out side of occasionally golf. Same can be said for bass fishing lol.

I love these driveby statements like this. What quantitative measure are you using? What action or inaction leads you to believe this? Frankly, I'm not sure what he's done or not done.
Indeed. I like to speculate on players and such, without any real basis of knowledge. I think we all do to some extent. However, when it comes to administrators like Allen Greene, and speculating on how effective or ineffective he is day-to-day, you're bordering on stupid. At least with players we have stats and practice reports.

We all know the rumors on Allen Greene. He came in and cut the AD admin budget. Justified because Jacobs had a bloated AD, IMO. It is obvious he was asked to do that. His coaching hires have been generally no better or worse that his peers. Its a crapshoot. Frankly I don't know anything about him, other than the rumors that he plays too much golf.

95% of what you hear about AG is worthless speculation

He may be useless. But the average AU person has no way to discern where AG is useless and where he's been completely stripped of authority to run the department.

I'm guessing it's some of both, but like most, I have no way to know

Short answer- Not soon enough

There were plenty of reports by ESPN, beat writers, etc that pointed to ADAG being useless during the Harsin scandal.

Plenty of reports that General Burgess was more or less running many day to day things from a business standpoint. Meanwhile ADAG was working from home.

And plenty that said that our coaches were pissed at him over his budgets that required Gen Burgess to intercede and smooth things over as well.

Lastly, plenty that said he was actively interviewing for different jobs. So I really don’t think he deserves your “you wasn’t there to know” defense.

So you're putting all your faith in the beat writers.

Good call.

When the beat writers aren’t the only people saying it then it makes more sense to believe the more overwhelming thought than what isn’t being whispered at all. Literally nobody thinks he has done a decent job.

I don’t know what is going on with ESPN not allowing me to copy and paste but the whole article painted Greene as absent or useless. Harsin wanted to know what was the holdup with his assistant coaches raises but Greene was useless as he wasn’t even certain of his own situation.
