Nice little interview with Joey's old QB coach:

He says Joey is already ahead in arm talent than what Cam had in Auburn.

What does fellow QB guru Chexmix have to say about this?

And you believed that?

I do. When Cam got to Auburn he was a dynamic runner and a good passer.

Joey isn't the runner Cam was but he seems to be able to make all the throws.

Except the deep throws where he over shoots the receiver or throws into double coverage?

I think the best course of action is to pump the brakes on the hype trains...both Nix and Gatewood.

Neither have taken a meaningful snap in college football.

Didn’t stop you from calling Gatewood Poor Man’s Dak.

We can't start the annual Heisman hype on the SEC Rant that way.

One mans opinion is just that. An opinion. I've spoken my peace about Gatewood and about Nix. I dont believe Gatewood is the answer and has issues with accuracy on passes over 20 yards and I believe Nix is the better Qb and is the future at that position for Auburn.

fricking deal with it

Nix is the future, no doubt about that. In the long run he may even prove to be better than Gatewood. I wont disagree with any of that. But Gatewood is the present.

Given that Nix is a little better at passing than Gatewood, having a guy that can run the zone read enough that the defense has to honor it is the one we need to use.

In shocking news, Gus announces it’s Gatewood and Bo Nix as 1 and 1a. Says one of the two will start the first game

Was your guess wrong? Or were you reaching for some triggerness with the board?

Not trying to trigger anyone. I felt that with Gus being Gus, he would reward Malik with the starting place in the spring due to him years of commitment and that he improved over the spring. Like I said in the prediction, I didn't feel like he would be the starter in the fall, just the named started coming out of the spring. That would give him something to work for and the other two something to work at.

It was an honest guess at what I felt Gus would do.

I was with you on your guess. It did seem like the typical Gus move. Maybe it means Willis is actually gonna start? Gus is playing 4D chess with us now.
