Imagine if we had hired Kiffin when we hired Harsin.

It’s funny you bring up Haskins. Durkin was also fired in less than 2 years at his last HC job too.

Durkin did kill a kid, so was probably well deserved

Some of us wanted him when we hired Gus.

Do you think he would’ve been as successful if he came here in 2013? I feel like the time under Saban was a turning point t for him as a coach.

We need to beware of the Peter Principle here. It has likely been the case in our last three hires.

All of the proposed candidates will come with risks and we need the choose the one that is the least likely to be getting promoted beyond their respective level of competence.

It’s not easy to find that right coach. I liken it to finding a star QB in the NFL.

I’m not close to sold on Sumrall.

Same here. I think he is better than what we had, but Tulane had a better record the 2 years before his hire. There is no guarantees in Coaches, but I think a DC who has learned from other winners will give the most chance. Unless we can make a Kiffin or similar hire

I'm not sold on Sumrall either, but this has been explained to you like 10 times now and you just keep posting the same thing over and over again. The roster at Tulane changed dramatically once Willie Fritz left. Sumrall did not inherit an "11 win team", so the fact that they have won less games is supposed to mean what?

Also, nobody brings up the fact that Fritz never won more than 7 games in six straight seasons prior to 2022. So why are we supposed to believe that Tulane is supposedly this program that just wins 10+ games by default? Because he did it two times in eight seasons? Even Willie Fritz couldn't win 10+ games every season there. It took him until year 7 to do it.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement. I don't dislike the guy but I am not sure the potential rewards outweigh the risk.

If Dillingham is willing to leave ASU, I think he’s the best option in my opinion.

I wonder is Leavitt would follow him. QB problem solved (at least for a year).

Dan Lanning WILL NOT win a NC at Oregon. He can go down as an “oh, I remember that guy, he was a great coach out there at Oregon”. Or he can come to Auburn and become a legend.

An Auburn player died under Coach Dye's watch as well - from similar circumstances (heat related)

All the talk of Kiffin… he still hasn’t won anything

Well yeah, if Lanning were somehow to be in play he’s the #1 guy. I feel like he’s out of our league with the way it stands today. Dillingham seems to be a real possibility though.

Agreed. I would take Lashlee as well. Which is funny because Lashlee was a joke on here for years, but he is winning and making playoffs now, so he is getting the last laugh.

Lanning isn't going anywhere. Nike money has said Lanning has an open checkbook for NIL.

Dillingham would be a great hire..........but truth is, he is still an unproven crap shoot.

We are going to be taking a chance no matter who we hire. Hopefully our next hire pays out in spades.

Little bit of an update on what I’m hearing.

Sumrall
DJD
Brohm
Jimbo Fisher
Dilly.
Charles Kelly

The rumor with Jimbo is he’d take the job for next to nothing and we could roll the rest of that money to NIL/STAFF HIRES. (I don’t think this is likely, but he has an above zero chance)

I think Durkin would stay under that pretense. I doubt he leaves Auburn unless he’s made to leave. He’s currently in the process of building a house here, plus he’s got studs at every level of the defense for the foreseeable future.

I’ve heard Sumrall/Durkin aren’t particularly friendly with one another so Sumrall is likely a total rebuild on both sides of the ball.

I do expect us to have a coach really quickly after the iron bowl.
