Exactly. Lock down Schumann or Hartline and (here's the important part) let them coach in the playoffs.

You're right. My bad. Remove him. Add Ryan Day to the list then

Yeah. I did some research on G5 HC's. Some will succeed, but more hot-name G5 HC's have failed miserably. Hell, we fired one the last go-around.

Without a doubt this is true. But Coordinators that have already failed as a head coach and been fired are almost never successful as a head coach, which is what you and the rest of the Durka Durka bros are burying you heads in the sand about and ignoring.
Durkin's situation isn't remotely similar to someone like say Schumann or Will Stein because of that.

Yeah, why would we want a guy with a top 5 defense that has learned how to run a program under the best 2 coaches in modern college football history.

He had gotten progressively worse every year.

Correct. He failed once already and hasn't done anything anywhere else to remedy that failure. Him returning to being a good DC doesn't negated the failure at Maryland because he was always a good DC.

Durkin didn't get fired because of performance. It was because of liability in the players death.

Will Mrs. Schumann please quit bring Glenn up? AU don’t want him

An Auburn defense with Riley's top 10 offense is a recipe for championships, in my opinion.
We had elite offenses in 2004, 2010, and 2013, and we were probably the best team in the country all 3 seasons.
But it probably doesn't matter, because Cohen doesn't appear interested in Riley or any other coach who might cost more than 6 or 7 million.

I'm not simping for Durkin either. Just bring facts to the discussion.
I don't care if they burn it down or force whoever to keep whoever or hire someone and let him do whatever he wants. I just want to win. That's all that matters

Of course we don't. Given our track record, that probably means he won't suck.

I read earlier that Golish might be the guy?

I don't really care what semantics you want to use. He sucked as a head coach, got fired, and his defense got insanely worse from year 1 to year 2.
And you using the fact that a DC looks goofy as a reason not to hire someone is a dumb take, even for you. Particularly when Durkin is a goofy looking guy himself. And I don't necessarily want Schumann to be clear, just that's a dumb reason not to want him

Any hiring pool is probably the same hit rate

I don't like Air Raid offenses. But if he molds it to have a power run game along with it similar to what Heupel has done at UT then it could possibly work.

His team went backwards in year two so performance wasn't good either.
Stop trying so hard to sell this. This would be both an incredibly lazy as well as an incredibly risky hire. You want to promote the DC from a losing team that has been part of the losing culture, who also happens to have already failed once as a HC, who also has zero interest from anyone else to fill their HC position (let alone our direct SEC rivals). He was also part of the losing culture at A&M under Jimbo. There is a lot of STINK on his resume.
So what does Auburn know about Durkin that everyone else doesn't know? And how is this any different from when we thought we knew something about Freeze ~3 years ago when literally nobody else with a pulse would have touched him?
You can like Durkin and that is fine, but don't try to blow smoke up my arse. This would be example # whatever of Auburn making a hire that none of our rivals would ever make, but here we are trying to talk ourselves into believing that it just "makes sense" for us LOL.

He will need to work in some power run game.
Would you call his offense *gimmick*
