Well, today I am sober and hungover. Not nearly as mad but so disappointed.

It is not about losing a G5 coach. It is that we appear to have been caught flat-footed yet again. Putting all your eggs in one basket, and not continuing to interview is just lazy.

Cohen needs to go. We will now likely hire someone in a rushed process that would have been vetted by any competent committee for weeks. But instead it appears we sat on our hands and thought DJ would be a good fallback.

They don't want to give up control to a coach who will do what Saban did and run the washed up, hangers on former athletes out of the program. No coach should have to deal with a bunch of bum arse former jocks he can't fire because they played here 25 years ago.

I firmly believe it comes down to autonomy. A top notch coach would require the power brokers stay in their lane. They just can't relinquish the control they have over the football program. Thus, we like to hire coaches with less gravitas.

So let them have full control. No booster funding, see how that works out. There is this thingy called NIL, might kinda sorta be important.

Schumann if its gonna be a coordinator. He's learning from the best available. We need to ONLY be looking at p4 Coaches and if we can't get anyone we like then go the Coordinator route and you call Schumann first. He knows exactly what it takes to win in the SEC and doesnt get the benefit from beating up on G5 opponents. Other than Urban Meyer, really no G5 coach ends up winning anything. With Auburns luck lately, we DONT need to be playing the lottery here.

Other schools seem to have figured out NIL without having the power brokers run the programs. Is it really an either/or scenario?

And look at UGA's defensive rankings. Pretty much top 10 in everything and top 5 in many. He gives me Kirby vibes.

He’s learned under two of the best. Saban and Smart. Not a bad name to look at in all of this.

Funny we are saying Cohen must go. I checked out the FLrant and they have organized a rally to fire Strickland (their AD) for incompetence because they think they are hiring Sumrall.

And we have fans here begging for the guy. Its a new day at Auburn compared to when I was in school

If Florida came in and decided to wing top 5 money at who we singled out as “our guy,” getting into a bidding war over it is stupid.

Just so you guys are aware: $10M is NOT "Top 5 money". Kentucky is paying Mark Stoops $9M a year. Eli Drinkwitz just got bumped up to $10.75M a year. These are bottom-feeder SEC football programs, and yet we have Auburn fans who want to all of a sudden take some sort of idiotic stand with what isn't even their own money.

Mike Elko was hired at $7M per year and less than two years later he got bumped all the way up to $11M per year.

The money argument is moronic. Even if you get Durkin signed for $6M and he succeeds, you will VERY QUICKLY end up paying him exactly the same or more money than what everyone else in the SEC is paying.

So what is the big-brained plan here? You want to hire a HC who nobody else wants for the low probability that you may get him on a "bargain" deal for a whopping ~2 seasons before you have to extend him at a market-rate anyway?

The more likely scenario is that your bargain-bin SEC head coach is going to produce bargain-bin results. Hence why he didn't have the bargaining power to get a better than bargain-bin contract from anyone else.

All the $10MM vs 8MM vs 6 MM analysis is false.

The numbers are minimum $50 MM vs $40 MM vs 30 MM.

If you think $20 MM is does not make a difference, great.

I like your input on Uga DC.

I think most are on Sumrall because no one wants Durkin to be named more than wanting Sumrall. Just my opinion.
