He shouldn’t. We allowed him to perfect his technique with Tubbs.

was very very high on Sumrall, but I think we could do worse than DJ.

So with sources, we need to go ahead and plan the Sumrall funeral and accept a fallback hire again?

Already start the grieving process? Was it bc he was forced to keep DJD that made him jump?

You said if he was offered AU, he would take it uncertainly, giving the family history and wanting to be closer to Auburn!

Ugh JABA. I pray he’s Sunbelt 2.0 if UF gets him. We already lost on Kirby making demands

LMAO! I hope Bama whips us by 30+ tomorrow just to cap off this nonsense.

Imagine letting a bunch of dumbass players who haven't produced a single meaningful win in 3 years dictate and guide your HEAD COACHING search .

Straight clown-show.

Oh, I can fell it coming. I was starting to get a little hopeful that maybe we could pull it off. Not now. Things are going just like they have for the last 5-6 years. Nothing goes right. I expect awful things tomorrow.

Yeah. No way to spin this. Hiring DJ would be a complete fail unless somehow Cohen gives the Alabama team food poisoning and we win the IB by 30.
And even then it would be a bad hire.

Florida also is going to outbid us on Sumrall. They’re more desperate for a hire than us because we have the failsafe in DJD.

You mean Florida didn’t have a former loser HC on staff to fall back on? Durkin isn’t a fail safe. He is a fail and will be fired within 2 years if promoted.

Durkin was even the DC at Florida as well. So wait, he is this awesome "failsafe" for Auburn, but why not Florida too? Couldn't they just hit him up as well?

Sumrall signed an agreement (not a contract) to become the next head coach. The deadline for this is to believed to be this Sunday evening.

Clowns running this damn thing. Who are we? We are pretty much begging a G5 guy? Sign the agreement, and then if you do come by Sunday, you'll get a bonus!

If I am running this search for Auburn, and I will say it loud that YES I think I could do a better job than our AD, I tell him we would love him be the next coach at Auburn and we have a contract he can check out.

If he comes back and says, well, I am not ready I need to see what happens, how about Sunday? I walk out and don't speak to him again.

Really, who are we? This is embarrassing. They are making a mockery of our University and our program.

I’m not above letting players have a voice in the search, but certainly they should not dictate the decision. IF you hire the right guy as HC and the current players don’t like it, then let the mass exodus commence. The HC is being hired with the next 10 years in mind, not the next 10 minutes.

If Florida offers $2M/yr. more than AU and with no income tax in Florida, it would be hard for Auburn to convince him to honor his non binding agreement to Auburn unless they match or exceed Florida's offer.

A couple Penn State players held up a sign asking for them to make their random CB coach turned interim-HC the permanent HC after their most recent game. This is the default behavior.

These are 18-22 year old dumbasses who's opinion is worth nothing. If they want to leave because "their coach" isn't retained then see-ya later. The Portal will be booming with players who will be happy to take Auburn's money.

Cohen and the idiots running Auburn's athletics are supposed to be smarter than this. Do they not realize that the players we want to retain are all gone in ~1-2 years regardless? Which basically means that if they don't won 9+ games next season, you get NOTHING out of retaining them period.

Lets say you make this move, retain Coleman and Atkins and whoever else and end up winning ~6 games next season. Coleman and Atkins are gone to the NFL after next season regardless. Now what? You hired Durkin to retain them, didn't win anything anyway, and now they are gone and you are stuck with Durkin .

From my understanding Cohen then went ahead and offered Durkin AHC and DC with a raise.
Sumrall wanted the opportunity to Interview candidates for dc, but he was likely going to retain DJD anyway.

If this is true Cohen needs to be fired immediately.

I always got the vibe that’s how the last search went, we had a deal in principle with LK, until Ole Miss offered a raise for more than we were willing to pay when we had HF as a fallback. If we are operating the same way now, with a cap on what we are willing to offer because we have a fail-safe, well that’s just the Auburn-style definition of insanity.

He is going to retain a bunch of players who have all contributed to multiple seasons of 5-6 win football.

Aren't you excited?
