If you’ve followed from day 1, it was Sumrall with DJD being the fall back option. It’s been pretty clear. That’s it. There wasn’t some extensive search. John Cohen might have “reached out” to other people but nothing else was very serious.
Guys like Drink and Lea used this as a way to get a raise and that’s it.

frick it, Charles Kelly being a CEO type HC might not be a bad thing. He’s got that Dye blood in him.

Hey now, Durkin did barely lose to Vandy and beat Mercer soundly. I'd put that resume up against any coach in the game.

these geniuses never wanted Franklin remember? Lol They said no to a guy who got to the playoffs and won at Vandy for a dude from Tulane. I say let's not jump to conclusions about this but hey..... that is what we do.

On the other hand, I’m excited at what DJ Durkin could potentially do here.
What in the world gives anyone confidence in Durkin? What has he done?

Here is a quote from football scoop:
There you have it. Sumrall told UF that AU was going to micromanage him and they said "we won't."
They also added that UF is offering Sumrall $10 million, which is probably more than AU wants to spend.
quote:
The Florida contingent speaking with Sumrall, sources shared, also have made clear that Sumrall would have full control of the Gators' program and autonomy on staffing decisions.
That's in contrast with what multiple sources have shared with FootballScoop across the past two weeks in regards to the Auburn Tigers's quest to replace Freeze.

Durkin proven as top shelf DC despite last couple games. Has been at the biggest programs in SEC.
Summerall has been a HC at Troy and Tulane. Won at both places but his experience is 4 years at a much lower level of ball than SEC.

You seem to have forgotten to include his HC record

We are lame AF for cuffing a coach. Haha, oh well, I really didn’t expect much different this search quite honestly.

If all of that is true as he turns down that offer from UF to coach at AU anyway, he needs his head examined. We don’t need someone who makes poor decisions because he’s just happy to be here. Take the Florida offer and run

Need a new AD. This one either lacks balls or had them cut off

One stint at Maryland pre NIL. Maryland is not a football powerhouse.

Durkin is a great DC.
Consider you are coming from Tulane. You have 5 times the staff, several administrative people in the school to deal with (yes you do, not just the AD but people who qualify academics for players, PR with the school, etc) Boosters, Big Boosters.
What a wonderful thing to have a loyal guy on staff who has been there two years. Heck you blessed his staying and got him another half million raise on top of the 1.7 mil he got less than a year ago, course he is loyal.
The nonsense about "making coffee" cause the AD hired him is nonsense. Ive never had a boss hire me HR did.....but I did not report to them
What could Florida offer, another million or two, he will already make several, is that worth the other life choices?
Sometimes life choices are important, but what do I know, anyway the weather is beautiful her in the southern Caribbean, may head to be beach for a beer or two

Auburn fumbling at the goal line hours before the iron bowl is how we’ve ended up here repeatedly over the last 20 years.

I told y'all Cohen would frick this up.
He has a history of bad decisions. He has had weeks to nail this down.
He placed short term( roster detention and staff dictates) over future.

Deal isn't done Cohen. Call back and offer full control of program/match money... get this thing done

1) Durkin was the DC when Jimbo was fired, and yet they had zero interest in him as the replacement HC. They even made the DL coach the interim HC over him.
2) Durkin coached at Florida, and yet they have had zero interest in him for their HC opening. Why?
3) Durkin coached at Ole Miss, and yet his name didn't come up at all as a potential candidate in the event that Kiffin leaves. Why?
4) Why has Durkin's name not come up at all for schools like Arkansas? If he is good enough for Auburn, then Arkansas should have been targeting him weeks ago. Arkansas fired their HC before we did and could have engaged Durkin's camp had they wanted to, but they didn't.
You should feel VERY worried that Auburn is literally the only school that has any interest in Durkin as their future HC. You should feel even more worriewd because Auburn has a bad history of making decisions that literally nobody else would make.
