sorry to hear about the fire...I remember those days of having a space heater because of the bad insulation in the house & heating only by wood.

Given Auburn's history of hiring shitty head coaches, I am seriously worried that we are about to wind up with Harsin 2.0
Oh I am too, trust. Unless we hire Riley, Kiffin, Smart, Freeman, or Dillingham. So I may as well try to convince myself wins are coming until they dont

If those are the only hires that you would consider to be good I fear you will be disappointed.

I don't see why Lincoln Riley is even on the "great hire" list. You'd have to pay him an absurd salary (given the inflated salary he is already being paid) for a guy who has done literally nothing at USC over the past 3 seasons. His record is no different than Drinkwitz's - except he is at USC in the Big Ten.
Some of you have the strangest opinions.

bullshite. Until I have a reason beyond speculation I'm always gonna get myself excited to go see my mom and watch some Auburn football on fall Saturdays. I understand the misery and groveling but at a certain point I fail to understand why yall don't just stay off the message boards and just try to wait and see. If we're barely bowl eligible or worse year after next then sure, cry your lil broken heart out, but until then FRICK have a little bit of fun. Hugh freeze is gone and the playoffs are a possibility again.

So why is his opinion somehow irrelevant, but yours is?
You’re pretty much making his point. When was the last time Auburn actually won a bowl game? It’s kind of lame to chastise the guy and telling him to wait a few more years and then he can cry.

Its not the only coaches I consider good. It's the only hires that it would surprise me if they came here and didn't have us as good as ever. The other names Ive heard have some good and bad points, I just camt predict which ones will surface most at Auburn.

USC hasn't ever recovered from the NCAA sanctions. It's been even longer since they have been relevant than Auburn. Its been 20 YEARS. Go back farther than 3 seasons and does the resume become different then? Sometimes it just doesn't work out between a job and employee.
If USC is wanting to cut bait and he is wanting a fresh start then something isn't working out and neither side wants to claim responsibility(if the rumors have been true). That could open the door to paying him a smaller contract, AND there isnt really and better options that will consider.

We're just trying to party and have some fun with this and he's been bitching bc the curtains don't match and we don't have $700 whiskey to pass around. The people that want to party are gonna tell him he's being a whiny lil bitch. Loosen up and have a beer like everybody else. This shits supposed to be fun but alot of yall use it to signal that yall haven't really figured out how to manage stress yet.

IF Sumrall does not win 10 games in a season within 3 seasons, I will ban myself for the first 10 games of the 2029 season.
This only applies IF he is the hire.

Even if your pissed at the hire, I still don't understand not getting behind the coach when they are brand new. I hated Hugh Freeze from day one, but I waited a few years and hoped like hell I was wrong about him.
You gotta have hope at some point. If not, its not worth it. I can totally understand being frustrated with a hire, but to just be negative from the get go, I don't understand.

Amen. It's not like we hired Jimbo, Dabo, or Trent mf Dilfer. I don't love Sumrall but I do like him.
And I'm not ignorant to the possibility of him being another Harsin or Napier. That's there in the back of my mind but thats where it's gonna stay until he gives me a reason to start thinking that way.

LB and you are getting discounted because you are offering no solutions, only bitching about our most likely hire. All you two have done is poo poo hires for not being sure things while offering no suggestions for who we could realistically hire that wouldn't be risky.
So yeah, people are rolling their eyes at you both. And no, let's hire Dan Lanning is not a realistic solution

LOL... that won't happen. I will be numb for quite a while if we get a tag-along OC.
We are beyond fortunate in that if it doesn't work out in 3 years, we'll get another one.
one of us, UF, or LSU will pop and it will hurt if it's not you.

This matters but I do think the AD and Sumrall understand the importance of the supporting staff and it will be a joint effort.

Yep. I just went back and looked at 2020 to see who my favorites were back then because I couldn't remember. Even then, there were some that were cussing and talking about what an awful hire Harsin was. He was terrible.
My favorites were the 4 below. What a list!
1. Napier
2. Sark
3. Venables
4. Fickell
I guess maybe Sark and Venables would have been ok. Better than Harsin.

If sumrall understands that he has to recruit out of his mind then he has a shot. If he shows up thinking his system and toughness will get the job done he'll fail like Harsin. It's that simple. People keep using Elko as an example of how you can lose your whole roster and still win, but I don't think Auburn is in the same position with the same pull as A&M. He wants to hire his own defensive guy? fine. Tell him he can do that in a year..... By that time he'll have a more firm understanding of the recruiting landscape he's in, and it reduces the need for him to have to start over from scratch. Technically that's what Freeze did with Cadillac. He just sucked completely as a head so that smart Chess move will get ignored.
