Went to the doctor to get swabbed for the flu this morning because night fever-induced body aches tormented me throughout the night. No flu, but my WBC was around 18,700 and that’s pretty elevated. I’m just ready to be announced as the first official corona recipient in Alabama.
Been out of town lately anywhere?

Nope it’s all boring from my end:
drive to work
drive home.
That’s all I do
drive to work
drive home.
That’s all I do

Come on up. I can put your asses to work. We already had orders for at least 5 weeks worth of work then a guy decided to use one of our jigs in the BassMaster Classic last week and busted some big bags of fish along with the catch of the day on Saturday. A 6 pounder that was under a dock, over a cable and around a boat. Circus catch and poof, my jig was all over the media stuff.
Now we are behind. Waaaaay behind. I have had 6 new tackle store inquiries in the past 24 hours. It may be time to just quit and be done with this thing.

Strange, my Mother in law is a nurse there and said they have tested several with no positives. But she just may not be in the know.

it could be rumor mongering, some people were texting other hospitals saying mine had confirmed cases but we just had tested for them and were waiting on results.
we'll know in a couple days

We are business as usual in the commercial construction world of Birmingham. I am going to start bringing my computer home with me in case. Fiance is a doc at UAB for now.

Some CDC friends are saying each state is its own separate clusterfrick. The process could be significantly streamlined in their opinion

Yeah, found out about it back during the time both my mom and brother were dying last fall (on consecutive days, as it turned out).
Needless to say, it's been a shitty few months.
But I should be fine, full bone scan and pelvic MRI showed no spread, all seems to be confined to a small area of the prostate. I'm in pretty good shape otherwise, so surgery should give me a clean bill of health.
That is, if I can actually have it done
ETA: Thanks for asking, Nino. I truly appreciate the concern.

My work just sent out an email with their 'pandemic disaster plan.' It reads like a copy and paste from H1N1. They even confuse coronavirus and influenza multiple times and suggest that people get vaccinated for coronavirus. So so stupid.

I will tell you the tale.
day 1
day 2
day 3
day 4
day 8
day 9
day 11

Patient presents with symptoms. Says they went to a conference here in the states with people who attended from around the world and are worried about COVID19.
Rapid influenza screen negative.
Alabama department of public health tells us they do not meet criteria for testing because they did not interact with a "known" contact. Patient remained on isolation out of caution
day 2
quote:
Patient showing increased dyspnea.
Overnight (day 2 -> day 3), patient deterioriates significantly and is sedated/intubated and put on a ventilator
day 3
quote:
We hear Labcorp will let us send a swab starting tomorrow but they have to run a battery of every other possible infectious agent first and this will take 72 hours. Patient begins showing signs of ARDS
day 4
quote:
Swab is taken and sent to Labcorp. Patient requires paralysis due to severe ARDS.
day 8
quote:
We are told the initial swab had the wrong "swab" or something and we have to resend. Patient still paralyzed

Reading this, I am fluctuating between horrified and enraged.

Ive actually considered testing for Covid, but my wife which is a medical liaison in Birmingham said that the hospitals would have to order the covid lab kits. Or, alternatively, I could order it then send the swabs off to Montgomery.

In between games right now just checking in but for those that like baseball and softball there is some quality high school games. Go out and support your local high school teams and get some sports in your life while you can. I’m sure we will get cancelled soon. My best team in probably 4 years this season. Great pitching and defense average hitting but undefeated as of now. Sitting at 13-0 with about 4-5 rainouts.
