I’m of the opinion that our team is an 8-4 type team that could be 9-3. 7-5 I wouldn’t say would be disappointing but just a hair below expectations for me personally.

Here’s the question. The caveat being I don’t think 9-3 or 8-4 matters to our recruiting class either holds what we have or will have at the time is signing.

If you are coach Freeze do you risk dropping a game and being that 7-5 or 8-4 team to gain experience for the many very talented redshirt and true freshman reps. Especially on special teams. Examples being kids like JC Hart, Kaleb Harris, Riddick, and others on return and coverage teams. Favour Edwin, Seth Wilfred and others on FG units. Plus maybe getting some of the other more physically ready players reps in the OOC games?

Or do you go with experience to win as much as possible this year with a large turnover of talent after this season. We have 26 seniors and are 4-5 short on roster spots currently going into the season.

Just my opinion and would respect others if they feel differently but this season I would do as much development as possible so that includes playing some inexperienced players. Even with a young QB next season I think the talent level increase and not having so many players seeing the field for the first time will be invaluable going forward.

I would try to do both. I would try to get far enough ahead by the fourth quarter to get some of the younger guys on the field. Obviously this is more doable in some games than in others.

It's all about the W. Don't ever risk it.

Too many factors, too many unknowns, too many happening for your opponent, .. .

(that said)

If it's me, a top 5 class added to what we already have is worth the lack of experience for next year. I'd hammer down hard as possible. Win's can be hard some days and they'll cover a multitude of sin.

On the other hand a less than stellar season and no experience would suck.

Freeze will play the freshmen early and often, but I dont believe he will be reckless with it. Winning is everything. Last year, Freeze shite the bed, took a hands off approach and really left a lot to be desired from a coaching stand point. Recruiting he killed it. Game planning, personnel decisions and play calling were subpar last year as well.

In other words, Freeze needs to turn in his best coaching performance to date this year. If that involves playing freshmen, so be it. Just get the frickin job done and dont give us excuses this year

I’m going to defer to the words & wisdom of the late, great Jerry Reed with my opinion in regards to this matter in my absolute agreement with you, awestruck.

“Keep your foot hard on the pedal
Son, never mind them brakes
Let it all hang out
‘cause we got a run to make”

So?…what I’m trying to say is…

…Put that Hammer Down & Give it HELL !!

You go for wins no matter what the mix of experience. You play the best options and hope some youngs are capable of competing, or some blowouts to get them some reps.

Play the players who give you the best chance to win.

Typically I would be of the mindset that you have your freshmen focus on strength and conditioning and keep them off the field that first year on campus. But with the portal you are going to have to manage the individual player's desire for playing time vs. the need to be ready for SEC football.

I don't think we have that many experienced players that are game changers, so play your top talent. That's going to be the trade-off with these blue-chippers we sign, they expect to play and if they don't, they'll leave.

Gotta put your best lineup out to win every single game. This has always been the case to me but even moreso in the portal era.

Can't count on these kids sticking around regardless of playing time. Get as many Ws as you can, next year isn't guaranteed.

All coaches

also all coaches

also all coaches (at least the smart ones)

so should they play the freshmen? Yeah if it helps. If they are the best then they need to play. Will they make mistakes? Yep, will they make some great plays? Probably. But they won't sitting the bench. Get them some reps in the small games to ensure that they understand the speed because they will quickly find out that when they play the better teams the stuff they did against the smaller teams won't cut it. It will make them better.

If you don't play them (the youngin's) the opposing coaches get in their ear about playing time.

If you play them and lose or struggle then Kiffin or insert whichever coach tampers, gets in their ear, and talks about how Freeze is under-utilizing talent.

The best recruiting strategy for current roster and future roster is winning games and NIL money. Development is now merely incidental and season to season.

I’m afraid this is true. The old Tuberville “diamond in the rough” is relegated to players who develop at other schools then transfer in. Sucks but it is what it is in D-1 ball now.
