I'm a sunshine pumper... and I know it's just Arkansas... but how in the holy hell has this kid not played? Dude had three sacks today but this was the first time he even saw the field at all? I'm actually worried about the ability to properly identify play makers now.

Meanwhile, Ellis stays on the sidelines while 72 keeps getting sonned by every DL in the conference.

I think we have some horses on the bench.

Definitely a bright spot. We might have a good QB on the bench also.

If Byrum doesn't scramble we lose this game. Even if Tia's the better natural passer it won't matter if he's on his back.

You realize that if Byrum could actually complete passes and run a scripted offense, he wouldn't need to scramble al the time, right? Teams just stack the box against him because no one is afraid of him successfully running an actual passing offense that doesn't involve playing like Johnny Manziel in the pocket.

Yes, when your QB can't make reads and holds the ball forever, and when he misses wide open easy throws, or misses wide open receivers or hesitates to pull the trigger on time on passing lanes that are open, then he MUST be able to play "backyard football" in order to do anything. Duh.

The problem that you are missing is that you can't run an offense successfully against good teams around a QB who's best plays come from breakdowns in the designed play-call. The backyard play worked against Arkansas (95th in the country in Scoring Defense entering today), but you may remember that he tried the same shite against LSU, and he wasn't able to magically slip out of sacks against those superior athletes on LSU's defense.

Yea there is also the flip that the reason Brown has to scramble is because he is being extremely hesitant to throw, making poor reads, etc. He missed some massive open receivers because he won’t look downfield.

perhaps our QB would feel more comfortable letting go of the ball if our receivers could get open more consistently against elite opponents? He's taking too long to let go of the ball at times without question, but he also saved us just as many times. We have not one Offensive lineman that I trust to play well against the upper half of the SEC. How well are they blocking for our RBs? What about our terrible perimeter blocking and always being 3rd and forever because of penalties on earlier downs? He's been put in bad situations just as many times as he's thrown late or behind revivers. Let's be fair about this

Dude, this is the SEC. Your QB needs to be able to throw receivers open, and let the ball go BEFORE they are actually "open". QB's who are actually good at throwing the ball are elite at anticipating and pulling the trigger to the correct target. They aren't standing there and waiting for a receiver to get open. Most receivers in this league are not going to be able to blow past defenders on a consistent basis.

You can go and see what USF fans said about him. He apparently played this exact same way, even against the lesser competition that he faced there.

Yep. Hell, even on the flea flicker we ran, he held the ball so long Nimrod almost ran out of the end zone.

We failed this offense more with our Oline Portal recruiting than we did by bringing Byrum in. For all if his flaws the Georgia game showed he could have done more with decent blocking.

Good eyes go crazy, I noticed that as well, on another play, a touchdown if he threw it when he was supposed to.

Meta, to your point. I saw one play where we had two receivers to the left, the outside was running a long pattern the second a comeback. The friggin corner saw bb crank up.......he broke off his coverage of the deep route, left our receiver running free because he KNEW bb would throw to the short man.....or just overthrow the long ball, both corners jumped the route and almost intercepted.

Johnny we usually agree on things, but the commentators were even saying he had time and pointing out open receivers.

I remember a previous game they actually ran a slomo when it was a timed crossing pattern and the commentator said "there" that was when he was supposed to throw it, instead he held another second, late, too hard, and behind the receiver whom it deflected off into the air and was almost intercepted. If thrown on time he runs right by the mlb in zone coverage and the safety had a bad angle, for a big gain.

And for the record, the silver necklace has been talked about enough, he knows it irritates fans and he wears it anyway.

And Auburn football should never allow a player to have advertising on their shoulder pads, thats bullshite. Whats next condom ads on your socks? Porn sites on your gloves?

I noticed that too.

It looks disheveled.

Not crisp.

I'm looking big picture here. Can Alex acknowledge to himself this off-season what Auburn needs and convince the money men to buy SEC caliber lineman? That will decide what happens with his tenre on the plains. My defense of Byrum is more about people saying play Tia or mentioning QBs that left. My question is how are those guys going to perform behind THIS line THIS year. Going forward can this coach properly evaluate who needs to be on the field? Can he diagnose what is and isn't working quick enough to salvage seasons and get us to the playoffs (in the future)? What people are saying about Byrum's processing skills isn't incorrect, but he's definitely the best we have right now. We ride him to 8-5 and recruit (2028) with a winning season in our pockets for the first time in 5 years.

If they have better vision & quicker decision making below 3 seconds then they should do better.

BB holds the ball too long, misses some open WRs. So this is my opinion but watch the game and see how long he holds the ball.

Holden, Hank, and Ashton, and Tia. Those are the four players people are saying would be better behind this line. Ashton has 12ints this year and is completing less than 60% of his passes. Holden only played because the starter got hurt and might be the least athletic of the four. Tristan is talented with a bright future but throws ints like candy right now(practice). In my opinion he needs more time. Your best candidate is Hank Brown. Decent signal caller who's learned in a system and has played solid while not being asked to do too much behind a better Oline. I'll be fair and say it's a toss up right now, but I don't think Hank would have beaten Georgia. At the same time he might have done better against Tennessee..... while the other three losses I think don't change. Like I said I don't disagree that he's holding the ball too long. I mentioned it in my post. I'm saying highlight both sides. A bad Oline AND taking too long to process. Don't even get me started on the fact that we CANNOT run the ball unless it's Byrum's legs.
