6 out of Payton Thorne’s 9 incompletions yesterday hit the hands of his receivers

Hitting the hands and no catch doesnt mean the ball should have been caught and vice versa- throwin the ball to hands doesnt mean it was a good throw. It would have been nice if the catch would have been made, but even if it was mdae, I highly doubt people would appreciate how difficult that catch was.

I can think of 2 passes that hit out receiver's hands and they were not necessarily drops, not neccessarily good throws either.

The main one is the slant basically flashing toward the QB: The receiver is running full speed at an angle that is more similar to runnin toward the QB than away from him, and the receiver is expected to catch a bullet in stride in a bang bang play with incredibly soft hands.

Well, the pass going higher than the target messed up the timing in the same way that a high snap can mess up the timing. Because the receiver was so close to the QB I think Thorne just had awful ball placement here.

My next point is this: good quaterbacks dont have drops problems. We had drops problems with sean white but then stidham came in and suddenly we knew how to catch the ball agaain.

I saw that and the video of all the drops. He should have been over 200 yards with 3 incompletions. Maybe 4

There is no reason to believe we would be better with Ashdod’s. Was he good last year? This year?

Except for how he moved the offense better at aTm and against thUGA yesterday, but ok.

Instead of watching Throne double pump a screen that gives time for the defense to get there and tackle him for no gain.
WRs werent doing their job blocking either. Saw plenty of ole blocks.

Seems like a nice enough kid, and I know his grandpa loves him but he’s got no business playing Power 5 football. He shoulda transferred to Union College or Slippery Rock or some such place.

You can see the problem at wide receiver in a flash. One button hook was jumped because the receiver ran the route then stopped and waited. No on in their right mind stands and waits. Hell, I learned that in high school ....got crushed on .... a button hook. Receivers are getting no separation .... beginning to believe that problem is in that room and it starts with the coach....Saw many replays where not one receiver was remotely open. I was not a receiver, I was a Quarterback, but when the sophomore was sent in, I moved to flanker, because the Sophomore was an idiot.

Video of those 6.

Another one that does count as one of those six was the back shoulder throw that the WR was just not looking for. I can’t remember which WR off the top of my head.

ETA: we need whatever kind of gloves Bowers was wearing. They looked like football magnets.

Thorne is not a bright spot but he was not the reason we lost.

When Thorne was at QB, the Georgia defense played two safeties about 11 yards off the ball all day.

When Robbie was at QB, they moved one up for run support and often moved two.

You can’t run the ball at an 11 man front.

Our defense played very well in spite of our talent gap preventing a pass rush.
Our OL played great.
Our RB played great.

Our kickoffs hurt us.
Our WR play ruined any chance of a win.

Jason Campbell was blaming Mardener for not expecting a back shoulder when the DB was in front of him.

I have trashed Thorne with the best of them. He played well yesterday. Our WR's are garbage. Fairweather is the only one who is dependable.

And he came across the middle caught the ball with his hands and had it swatted away before he could tuck it. You are 6 foot 5 and 250 lbs, turn your back shielding the catch for fricks sake.

Thats the one someone alluded to that Thorne was pissed about. And rightfully so. The DB is directly in front of you and the ball is thrown, 98% chance the qb is gonna throw it back shoulder to the sideline......and you dont even turn around.

Saw the same thing last week, different receiver, DB AND safety barreling in, Geriner throws it backshoulder sideline and our receiver cuts into the field into both backs and the ball sails 3yards behind him. Perfect throw that looked terrible to the casual observer, same as the aforementioned.

The over the shoulder play on the right sideline wasnt on the receiver. Receiver deserves no blame.

The slant should not be laid at the wide receiver's feet as well. Whoever tried to make this video to divvy up the blame can just as easily keep that slant on Thorne.

I still just don’t know at this point what Thorne is giving us that Ashford couldn’t do better.

Complete passes? Give us a better chance to win?
Thorne is not great but Ashford is NOT a QB
Stats: Thorne 62.8% (59 of 94), 125.8 rating... Robby 44.4% (8 0f 18) 95.9. Rushing Thorne (Second on Team) 198 yards (4.4), Robby 134 (5)

Robby, 2022 - 49.2% (123 of 250), rating 107.
Thorne is average, but Robby is a weak QB. less than 50% of his passes
