The state of Auburn football

Auburn has one of the most passionate fan bases in college football. But that passion has turned into a different kind of entertainment.
There's a phenomenon in sports where a fan base becomes so disillusioned that sarcasm, dark humor, and hoping for an absolute meltdown become coping mechanisms.
Auburn fans aren't necessarily rooting against Auburn. They're rooting for something dramatic enough to finally force change. And that's probably the saddest part.
When the fan base starts treating Saturday football like a weekly episode of How Much Worse Can This Get?, the program has a serious credibility problem.
War Eagle is supposed to be a rallying cry, not a support group!

What gets me is most people predicted around 6-6.
We can easily go 6-6 and same people will melt like stale information is new revelation.

I had predicted 8-4 but that was when I was ignorant concerning how bad the defense would be.

You watched our resident weirdo claim "performance doesn't meet the paycheck" to every sec talent that walked out.

I think the curve is what bother most. This team, given the talent deficiencies we've seen in every game, had NO business beating Georgia. And even though we played well, nothing in that win had any but the most orange-tinted of glasses thinking we'd pull off a win the next week against LSU. But we looked as inept in the last two games as head-scratchingly above our belts in Athens.
We don't look well coached, despite the self-abuse Golesh is so good at giving lip service too. We don't look prepared. And after a decade of this and another coach with an offensive scheme floundering early, this looks much worse than just a 6-6, 7-5 team. It looks like a PROGRAM that has become at 6-6, 7-5 reality and that's depressing. What's even more depressing, in a way, is that Jordan Hare will still be filled for every home game, people will dance to the DJ, see themselves on the ridiculous jumbotrons, the eagle will fly and nothing will change.

It's not so much us rolling double sixes or having ruffled tail feathers, but rather the sense of them being permanently creased. It's the direction in which we have continued to slide. Because after beening duped by Harsin and Freeze we had all hoped for signs of improvement.

When Golesh was asked before the season what his goals were, he said he had not goals he had standards. And that he would like to be know as a team that improved every game.
One way to determine that is penalties

1 Sept. 5, 2026 vs. Baylor W 17-16
Penalties 6 47 yards
2 Sept. 12, 2026 vs. Southern Miss W 43-8
Penalties 10 73 yards
3 Sept. 19, 2026 vs. Florida L 39-44
Penalties 6 65 yards
4 Sept. 26, 2026 vs. Vanderbilt W 21-15
Penalties 5 44 yards
5 Oct. 3, 2026 @ Tennessee L 14-24
Penalties 11 94 yards
6 Oct. 17, 2026 @ Georgia W 27-24
Penalties 11 85 yards
7 Oct. 24, 2026 vs. LSU L 17-38

8 Oct. 31, 2026 @ Ole Miss L 15-45
Penalties 8 67 yards

Depending on SEC Officiating as your level of accurate measurement?
Need a new yardstick or tape measure.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of crowd we get for next game. 11:45AM game coming off of two wood sheddings.

Its true and this season shows how just a tad of something good to happen gets everyone all jacked up. Most people thought 6-6, some of us 5-7, a few 7-5, then there were the dreamers 9-3. Team will probably end up 6-6, 7-5 at best.
But, after beating UGA, the talk was running the table out.
Its not a successful year, I dont personally like how it happened but it is falling about where most reasonable people thought it would

The final record will probably land somewhere around what I predicted 6-6 or 7-5 but I foolishly thought we would not get embarrassed like we have twice already or that we’d need an amazing last second stop to preserve a win against a Baylor team that fired its coach midseason. We didn’t look to sporty against a terrible Vandy team either. It took a blocked punt for TD to win that one. It’s just a huge disappointment. I’m not saying Golesh can’t correct some things this offseason but I don’t see many signs that give me hope that he will. I hope I’m wrong.

This is true. I thought we’d lose games a little closer and be more disciplined than we have been. That’s the only caveat. We have been a very undisciplined team up to this point, which is not what Golesh was preaching in the pre-season.

We’ll take Mississippi State, Arky, and Samford and the Iron Bowl is always a toss up but I go in not expecting to win.
For me its the early losses being so close and competitive then we’ve become straight trash since walking into Samford Stadium and pushing their shite in.

Jang, I’ve been amazed but fans have finally hit the - “I can’t do this anymore more”. There is more vitriol than ever and I saw it personally and its getting worse. Guys are fed up. It’s not just from the crazies on X but older supporters fed up! Plus the gameday experience has really impacted the older tailgaters, it not about fan experience but bottom $$$,
Really, 6-6 and 7-5 are super after losing everything we lost last yr, especially on D fence -lost 16 starters then kicked off our best player mid season, 17 of 22!

While I’ll admit that the Georgia win reeled me back in to watching the past 2 games, I sure regret it. I don’t expect us to win them all but there is ZERO zilch improvement in any of these teams throughout the season. We get worse.
I agree and understand the point above but that’s no excuse that it used to be. Losing talent isn’t an excuse anymore when their are 5 star upperclassmen available to bring in across most positions in the portal now.
I may get excited to watch the start of the iron bowl, but it’s back to spending Saturdays in ways I can enjoy until something changes. I don’t expect to be undefeated, I wanna see improvement and that hasn’t been a word to describe Auburn football in many seasons.

Stop being an NFL minor league team. Make football a club sport. Get true student athletes. Get out of the NIL bullshite and go back to being a school.

I predicted 8-4, with losses to UGA, LSU, Ole Miss, and Bama. I really thought our offense would be enough to get us over the hump against Florida and Tennessee.
I expected us to be competitive in every game we played, look disciplined, and have a cohesive plan.
Right now, I’m perplexed at how inept we’ve looked over the last two weeks. It’s like they felt their season was over after beating UGA.
The problem I’m having in predicting our wins and losses is that I still look at these schools and perceive them as they have always historically been. NIL has changed the game and I have to learn how to look at them differently.
But, 7-5 is still on the table if we can regain our early season form.
A winning season would be a great first step after the last few years.
