The problem with this team isn't coaching.

It's the generation. Don't know how or when to feed the post. And when the post guys get it, they're so used to not having it that they don't know how to recognize where the double is coming from or where to go with the ball.

They're just a little out of sync in the half court.

Plus they have the depth to press. I wish they would press with the 2nd team at least.

It's just a talented basketball team that hasn't yet found the right rotation or an edge. Happens all the time. It will come in time.

Kansas lost to Iowa State by 17 yet nobody is writing them off. Let's not over react. CBP is going to give the program the best trajectory it can have. There is no need to begin question inherent characteristics about his coaching technique.

Virginia never plays dumb. I'm sure OP would have taken it well if it was us getting destroyed by a 16 seed in round 1 last year, right?

Y’all gotta admit that CBP doesn’t like to use timeouts at all.

Meh. You can hire someone to do that for you. Hard to find someone who can do what Pearl can at Auburn.

I would not hate to see him drop his son as an assistant and pick up a good former head coach as an assistant.

Bruce is the best thing to happen to Auburn athletics in a long time, this is a pointless melt and that's coming from a guy that's been melting over Gus for a few years now.

Even if this was true, this is still an improvement from AU BBall's historical offensive strategy of "not scoring"

I'm often critical of Bruce because I'm a traditionalist that prefers Tom Izzo / Tony Bennett style bball. I like fundamentally sound teams that play good defense shoot high percentage shots and rebound.

With that said I'm also a realist and know we aren't getting any better than Bruce at Auburn so you just have to take the good with the bad and enjoy the fact that Bruce has us back in the national picture. It's amazing what he's done really (even though at times it isn't pretty)

Pearl is not the Tom Izzo type as you just said.

So saying that, we are a team that Pearl coaches.

We will have games like this. But one thing about Pearl, he finds ways to adjust and they do come back and play better.

It's a long season. One game doesn't lose the conference title.

We will have a good to great season w/ Pearl as our coach. I'll accept that over anything we used to have (and that includes Ellis. why? b/c Pearl will consistently be a better recruiter than Ellis).

To say that Bruce Pearl isn't good with X's and O's is simply inaccurate. He is known in the coaching community as a truly elite X's and O's coach out of stoppages (baseline out of bounds plays, late game situations, both offense and defense)..

However, outside of those, his whole system is built on the pillar of player freedom. This not only allows his players to make plays without fear of failure and getting benched but also feeds right into his ability to recruit at a high level (most players want freedom) and to put an entertaining product on the floor.

Now, don't get me wrong, for basketball junkies who want to see 6 off ball screens and 8 passes on every possession to create a wide open layup.. Bruce is NOT your guy. He is who he is, BUT it's all calculated and wrapped up in his overall philosophy that helps him recruit and has given him a TON of success with his basketball teams.

The only play I wish Coach Pearl would throw away is the 'Wiley shoots the 3 pt shot...and "where did it go?"

Other than that..I very happy w our coach, and I'll ride w him as long as he can consistently recruit and give us NCAA tournament teams...

Ole Miss is 3-0 in conference play and 13-2 overall.

Maybe Ole Miss is very good and we played them at home.

Edit to add

Plus they beat ranked Miss St. In Starkville.

Ole Miss is good!

But they have to come to Auburn next game.

Bruce can recruit and thats great for AU and I'm certainty glad we've got Bruce . but when it come to X and O and the fundamentals of the game he's just bad at that part of coaching.
