Yes we can speculate and have fun with it but at the end of the day Harsin is going to hire guys he knows he can trust. It doesn't matter if we know any of his hires as long as he's successful. That's all that matters. I know recruiting is important but the transfer portal is gonna be full of guys this year. If Harsin puts a consistent product on the field this season then recruiting will take care of itself. With success his name will be established enough by seasons end to go into homes in the south and get the players he needs.

I agree. This whole "needs SEC experience" thing is overrated. Yes, it's probably a good idea to have some on your staff with SEC experience, but it's not a requirement for the HC himself.
Saban had none when he went to LSU. Zero. And he won a MNC there.
Meyer had none when he went to Florida (he was a guy from Utah). And he won two MNC's.
I'm not saying Harsin will be those guys, just pointing out that a good coach is a good coach regardless of where he's from.

LSU just hired a joke at OC.

Trying to recapture that 2019 magic.

what's wrong with the hire?
They're simply trying to recreate the Brady magic from 2019.
Evidently these 2 guys were connected to him in one way or another.
Unless you're going after a already established successful OC (and most of them are looking for a HC job anyway, these days), then it's all a guess.

Is Harsin ever gonna hire a staff?
I just took a peek at the Coaching Changes board and everyone is making moves except Auburn. And we were ahead of some of these other schools in the firing and hiring. This is seeming to take an awfully long time. Or am I just reading too much into it?

Seems to me like no one has really hired anybody until today. Maybe I’m wrong though.
And I don’t think we were really ahead of anybody in hiring/firing

Why would we compare our timing on hires to anyone else?
It's simply inconsistent if you look at that board monitoring hires.
Even USC who hired Beamer back in early DEcember, STILL doesn't have a DC yet.
So why worry about how fast a HC moves to fill his staff? He really means nothing...
..And no, according to that board NOT everyone is making moves...

The early signing day has changed things but typically non head coaches change jobs after signing day. If I recall most contracts revolve around those dates as well for non-HC's

Makes sense. He's from Columbia originally.

USCe would take Kevin Steele before T-Will. I can't imagine that Shane Beamer, a position coach, is leaving his defense to someone who's never been a DC before.

I think TWill being from Columbia is a big deal, they need big time recruiters and he would fill that role, and eventually someone has to take a chance on him.. SC is the type of job you have to take risk at in order to win. He would be a risk as a 1st time DC, but the reward could be very big.

Steele's name has been attached to the USCe DC position since Harsin was hired. Thats the type of job he'll get because I don't think he's in line for any of these major DC positions. T-Will to USCe as a DC only makes sense under a tenured defensive HC. Look at what Beamer did with the OC spot - he kept tenured OC Mike Bobo. Considering that he's mainly been an offensive position coach in his career, I don't think that Beamer can hand the entire defense over to a guy with no experience.

quote:Could always hire experienced position coaches to help with his inexperience. Its basically what USC did with TRob last year. I don't think its a guarantee or anything.. I lean towards TWill coming back, but I do think its possible if we let him go that he goes to USC in some role. Maybe hire Garner as DC and TWill as LB/co-DC or something.

Somebody needs to call the defensive plays. Thats the DC. T-Rob could follow Muschamp around because Muschamp is already a DC by trade. T-Will could obviously call the plays, but I seriously doubt that a highly inexperienced coach like Beamer is going to hand the entire defense over to an inexperienced DC; that seems like suicide in the SEC. Hiring Rodney Garner as DC doesn't solve that problem either because Garner has never been a DC himself (and for a reason).

Very interesting. How many associate AD's do universities typically have? Isn't that Tim Jackson's title right now?
