247 is reporting that if Phillips wants to transfer to an SEC school, he would need a waiver. I had read that Tenn is currently at their 13 scholly limit and that was before Phillips announcement. I don't know if that could play into a waiver situation by saying he basically had no scholarship opportunity to continue with Tenn but I'm just throwing crap against the wall with that.

Jeffrey Lee is basically saying the rule is real and there but is pretty flimsy. Nothing to really suggest we have the inside track to getting Phillips yet though but I'm sure we will be in the mix

Johni put up 23 in a gleague testing game today and was by far the best player out there

Eh. He will do well in that format statistically. I don’t see it convincing any scouts he can be in the league anytime soon. Big guys who can run the floor will do well in those glorified scrimmages. Only a couple guys from that whole camp will even get a combine invite.

Worth noting that Julian Phillips already has an NBA combine invite. I didn’t know that.

Phillips is mocked in some drafts as a 2nd round pick. Some have him early 2nd rounder

Not surprised he’s played well there. The problem for him is he plays like a 5 but has the height of a 4. This combine isn’t going to change that for him.

Yep. It's good experience and exposurer but he's going to have to show he can consistently hit outside shots and move his feet well enough to defend on the perimeter before anyone takes a shot at drafting him

I swear to God our roster has been young and raw potential since F4 and we are never going to do anything if we keep flipping whole rosters at a time.

Auburnnyc get in here and tell me it’s all going to be okay

Edit: and when we did have depth- we had no talent at guard.

Yeah this would suck. Especially since it is highly probable Broome will never play an NBA minute. Dude can't hack it on the perimeter with high end offensive talent.

In past years, some of the G League call ups to the combine have still come back to college. Marcus Sasser and Jalen Wilson both did last year. I guess there is your hope.

Would leave basically an unfillable hole at this point in the calendar. We'd definitely add somebody obviously I'm just not sure we could find a legitimate starting 5 at this point. We'd have to play about like Miami did last year.

The good news is Tyrin Lawrence didn't get called up to the combine though.

It’s crazy to me that in a sport where you only need to field 10 good players (2 deep), we have a hard time signing and reloading with strong hs talent every year.

BP has stated there are only 20-25 HS players every cycle worth recruiting. Basketball has a ton more schools to choose from and less talent.

UK is the poster child for why you can’t be too HS heavy with the one and done rule.

Like nyc said, the likelihood that Broome ever plays a minute in an NBA season is as close to zero as it gets. I would still bet he comes back, unless there is a team that tells him they will take a chance on him in the second round. If he knows he will get drafted then financially it makes sense to go.

Last season, seven players were elevated from the G League Camp to the NBA Draft Combine and none were ultimately drafted.

Jay G Tate said in a thread this morning that Tyrin committing and Broome returning was the most likely scenario.
