Definitely will be talented but in the following order I think determines how the season goes… defense(team defense), consistent shooting, chemistry, selflessness(teamwork).

A+ all those and I think sweet 16 is the floor

I agree, defense continuity, outside shooting consistency, and ball handling/not turning it over will help determine starters.

So Sills and Johnson will be determined by all round Defending and who shoots the best outside.

Smith and Williams will be determined by how fast Smith learns the offense and again how well he defends.

I think Green, Flanigan, and Kessler pretty much start based on just experience and ability at their respective positions...

Pearl now has the ability to put different matchups on the floor for offense and probably defense too...

I think it's safe to put Smith in this category as well. You don't bring in talent like that to come off the bench, even to start the season.

I’m so curious to see how this pans out over 5 and 10 years. I think over 5 years the young professional route seems to be winning but 10 years from now college will re-emerge as the preferred destination for top prospects with some rule changes

I dont think so. As spring football has proven, it is really hard to start new sport leagues and sustain success.

The finances are interesting. The only way a league is going to last (especially with some of these contracts) is if the NBA is keeping them afloat.

We’re talking about Overtime Elite, right?

Not sure the NBA will get involved there unless it’s successful. Anyway, I think this can work. They have a lot of funding already and they’ve got the right personnel to give the idea it’s best shot.

I don’t think it’s as detrimental as we think it will be, especially if they’re signing overseas kids and keeping guys for 2-3 years.

For a baseline reference, McMahon put up 500MM for XFL2.0. I know C19 didn't help, but he recognized quickly how big of a money drain it was when no one watched.

But is overtime elite televising games? Are there games? Or is it just like a training academy. If so I don’t know what would be in it for investors but that’s what I understood it to be

IDK. My point is the NCAA still offers value, and I don't think these up start leagues will cut into it.

Yeah but that was a whole league. This is one team, essentially.

And they’ll broadcast games. I think they’ll need overseas kids and international matchups to really make it something that casual bball fans watch

Yeah I get that but I’m just wondering if the league is sustainable or will fold like a cheap tent. If they are promising ROI that rests on people watching games and ad revenue, it has no hope imo. I don’t know if that’s what this thing is though

I still don’t see that being close to a good enough draw. Casual basketball fans barely know the elite guys in HS, much less the international guys. I feel like even when it comes to the draft, most international guys get a “who the hell is this guy?” response

It’s definitely an uphill battle. This league is geared so heavily toward digital media and ad revenue from those outlets that it seems like it could work where others would struggle. I imagine the content creation/production will be through the roof in terms of filming those kids throughout their day on campus at the battery. Outside of just the games I’m guessing they’ll have daily and weekly episodes following multiple kids as well as practice and event stuff.

And I’m betting the target audience is a lot younger than the posters on this board Though, I’d be psyched to watch international games against the leagues/teams that guys like Luka played for in Europe

I’d watch it and I’m a casual fan. Wouldn’t buy a jersey but I’d tune in and the international portion isn’t necessarily for US eyeballs. It’s for international eyeballs.

Anyway, I know the cool thing to do here is forecast the likely struggle but I’m intrigued. No idea if it will ultimately work but this feels a little different and a little better structured than I thought it would be when I started hearing about this earlier this year.

Yep. College guys get eyeballs 85% of the time because of school allegiances. Without that, the entertainment value and profile is wayyyy down.
