No kidding. If Scoot would have chosen Auburn over one million dollars, I would seriously have to question whether he would have the intelligence to pass any classes at Auburn.

Really? I’d be questioning how much we paid him.

Who's bankrolling all this? Shoe companies and shady trash?

To be honest, if he came to Auburn even for 1 year, and never went to class, I would have no problem with it, if he is scoring 25 a game, and leading us to a SEC championship... :)

Honest question - if players were already able to receive payment for their likeness by now, would Scoot have made more in revenue by signing with Auburn? I guess my question really is, how much will these new rules allow colleges to compete with these new professional leagues?

Yeah I get that but I’m just wondering if the league is sustainable or will fold like a cheap tent. If they are promising ROI that rests on people watching games and ad revenue, it has no hope imo. I don’t know if that’s what this thing is though

If college follows through with NIL I don’t see how the league can last, but then again most disruptive ideas like Overtime Elite are met with pessimism, so you just never know. But for now NIL with competitive games and college fanfare should make the college route hard to be beat.

NCAA athletes shouldn’t become millionaires, but if they want to make extra money on autographs or clothing lines, they should be allowed to make enough income to where college ball has intrinsic and extrinsic value that will compete with the other options.

With that said, I once didn’t like college athletes getting paid. Still not thrilled about it. But times are a changing, and the lines in the sand keep getting redrawn.

I'm the opposite. I'd like to get back to an amature game in college football. Universities accept players who have no business in college. Auburn made up a major for Brent Fullwood to get him enrolled.

A professional minor league system for football would be great.

It will come down to the bottom dollar for the players. Whether they can make more in college or at a developmental league.

Kind of flies in the face of the "true" reason for higher education but UF ain't turning down that gatorade money developed off grad students in chemistry.

In a utopia we would all like to think our University would recruit the best student-athletes but reality is it's big business and we recruit athletes we think we can win with.

Is there a cap on how much someone can "earn" from NIL? I dont see kids getting $1 Mil for NIL

No. The right player could definitely earn in excess of that though. Think about Cam or Tebow or Jameis or Zion or Laettner or The Fab Five. Capitalism would have gotten those guys serious money in school

Jimmer Fredette - if you remember him - at BYU could have earned millions as a college player. He also had the shake and bake of a rec-league player. His stroke was on point though. I just tire of my universities having a minor league team attached to the school in all honesty. If the playing field was even, would anyone lose interest if you have a connection to the school? I wouldn't. The stakes would still be high. Fighting for championships and all that. You'd just eliminate the kids who have no business in college. Or maybe are too talented.

Yep. Or Manziel. Think about what he did for A&M. Basically put them on the map. Manziel could’ve named his price.

I wonder how many kids will be promoting their YouTube and Instagram now. Funny just a few years ago destroying had to give up his scholly because his YouTube was making money. UCF even used twitter handles on their jersey in the spring game

So do both Zep and Desi have 2 years of eligibility left? Both would ordinarily be seniors this year but Covid granted them an extra year right? And technically both Wendell and KD would have 4 more years?

Shams Charania
@ShamsCharania
Florida twins Amen and Ausar Thompson – rising high school seniors and five-star prospects – are bypassing HS/college and signing two-year contracts with the new Overtime Elite professional league, sources tell
@TheAthletic
@Stadium

So we were after these twins

We offered a week and a half ago, yeah.

Just glad we know which way the wind blows early rather than waste time trying to reel them in.

Bama is getting Gonzaga to play at the new Bham Arena in '22-23. I hope we can get something like that going.

We did. We played 'Zaga this past year already. We're one up on playing the big dogs in basketball. :)

But I know what you mean. It would be good if Pearl could get a top team outside of this area to play against, or even a Duke team, to come play in a neutral arena around Atlanta. It would draw a ton of Auburn fans I think...since it is close to most of us...
