{rifleman} name to not mention maybe had a lot more shooting development for the players then most fans probably realize
maybe but we had players showing shooting development before Person got to AU. It’s not just a Chuck thing.

Fwiw...Hansen apparently no longer thinks we lead for McClung. He thinks top 3 will be Wake Forest, Texas Tech, and Memphis.

Wake Forest mod also thinks WF will be included in top 3.
Good chance all 3 of them want him at the point, which is where his agent wants him, while we want him as a combo guard.

Rifleman's tutelage was always overrated. He didn't do near as much hands on shooting training as people seem to think.

Don’t know about this. Excuse the multiple languages but read what Sotto has to say about this.

Yes Bryce was such a terrific high school sharp shooter he was ranked 91st at his position and we stole his commitment from the mighty charlotte 49ers.

I love Bruce and think we will do very well consistently but to act like losing that coach wasn't anything major you're very wrong. He is one of the premier shooting coaching in the country. He fricked us over so good riddance but can't deny his ability.

Not saying Chuck doesn't know what he's doing w/individual shooting instruction.. just that he wasn't doing much of this while he was at Auburn. He did have a couple of guys he kinda took under his wing in that regard. For instance, I do know he took on Wiley day one until he was fired later that year

Natural shooting ability doesn't have much clout in terms of recruiting rankings.

Edit: I will concede the Purifoy note is probably a good one to point out where Chuck would have helped. If Chuck saw a shot that became visibly broken during the year (from a previously proven shooter) he would have taken it upon himself to work the kinks out with Danjel.

Austin Wiley’s dad is actually a cousin of Person’s. I’m sure there was a connection there.

I’ve read an Orlando.Magic article say that Chuck was instrumental into Okeke’s development and I’ve read the Kai thing. I have to side with Corch on this one. He was an excellent pro for years at shooting from long range (led to Greatest NBA nickname of all time) and we shot lights out while he was on the bench. Once the players he trained leaves, the shooting development seemed to disappear. At this point it make too much sense to think Person was valuable in shooting development. Do you know anything that we don’t about Person’s involvement in practices?

Okeke arrived at Auburn in July 2017 and Chuck Person was gone in Sept-Oct. 2017. And Kai obviously doesn't change my point that it wasn't really a major component of his role while he was employed at Auburn.

Again, he definitely is knowledgeable in the area of sharpshooting and clearly offers some level of expertise there, but he isn't the reason Jared and Bryce torched the SEC for two years. A minor component for those two at most.

He pretty much only played his senior year. His shooting was why he was even being recruited. He shot 37% in high school.

I think some of you are giving Person way too much credit. Just because you do something well doesn't mean you can teach others how to do the same. Proper shooting form isn't exactly a state secret. Most of that is instinctive and something that is developed through repetitions in the gym to develop muscle memory. Brown and Harper were great shooters because they worked on it not because a coach was standing next to them telling them to keep their shoulders and hips square.

ETA- Adler was always the name I remember players mentioning when referencing a coach working with their shot

Eric Bossi says Both Gach will be conducting a virtual visit to Auburn soon. 6’7 transfer from Utah.

LINK

A 6’6 Forward from St Johns is transferring as well. LJ Figueroa. Averaged 14.5 PPG and nearly 2 steals per game. He apparently comes from Tyrell Jones’ HS. Played with Heron.

Insiders on the bunker says it's going to be quite a bit tougher for him to get a waiver to play next year than McClung FWIW.

Bryce Brown out of HS was a 6'1 guard with a small wingspan who could not play PG due to limited on ball / playmaking ability. If you add "average shooter" to that profile, 91st may be ranked too high.

The only reason Auburn even offered him was that he could shoot.

No one is doubting that Person is a loss, but there is no definitive link between our shooting + Person. The loss that you probably should be pointing to is the one MCT is referring to, Harris Adler. It has been reported and backed up from connected AU people that the major coaching loss was Harris Adler.
Here is a quote from Pearl

quote:

Pearl credited much of that improvement to two things. One, graduate assistant Matt Gatens — an 86.3 percent free-throw shooter at Iowa from 2008-12 — and assistant coach Harris Adler, who he called “the voice of our shooters.” Two, a drill the Tigers introduced at practice this season called “The 50 Club.

Adler also deserves credit for finding nearly every overlooked recruit we've had success with

- Bryce Brown
- Jared Harper when he was 3*
- Samur Doughty
- Malik Dunbar

Unfortunately, he moved back home when his mom got chemo + small kids. Doubt he is returning to coaching FT Soo

Honestly, I've heard losing Adler was a massive blow. He supposedly was great everything despite no one having heard of him

- Strategy/scouting
- Development
- Recruitinf
- Player evals

Honestly I was surprised by how ridiculously high people spoke of him

Guess I’m gonna pause on getting myself excited for every fricking transfer that hits the market until they actually commit/sign
