They should just postpone the tourney to late April/May rather than cancel. This will be done by then.

I agree we'll be over the hump by that point but I can't figure out the logistics of how that will work. Won't the arenas they were playing in have other obligations? Will teams just continue to practice in the interim time period? Would TV rights be effected?

Maybe its possible, but it seems more likely they just throw their hands up and cancel it all together.

They need to play it in march or cancel.

By April and early may the hospitals will be overrun. We won’t have a vaccine by then.

I know this is just a flu like thing but it has no vaccine and it is exponentially growing to where health care facilities cant keep up. Italy is having to choose who to treat and who gets to run it’s course....

If the season ends here I'll always just assume we would have ridden the momentum from last Saturday to a national title.

Draft is in June. You would have some first rounders want to skip the tourney if they were already comfortable with their selection status

Totally

Nice long discussion of the virus. 15 or so minutes of listening tells you all you need to know about it.

For reference, when they declare a case as "mild" that only means the patient does not require supplement oxygen. From my understanding, many of the so called "mild" cases are awful and closer to the "worst flu you've had and for longer"

Case Mortality spikes above 1% for 50+ and 3+% for 60+ YO. My dad 60+, former army ranger, survived a kidney/lung autoimmune disease. This scares the sh*t out of me, I'm not ready to even think about possibly losing him

I dgaf if it is an overreaction, If cancelling sports is the cost to delay potential spread till we have adequate treatment/vaccines, I'm all for it. We can be a basketball school for many years to come after this is over

That's literally the expected peak of the pandemic.

So 25-6 after losing Bryce, Jared, and Chuma. I'll take it and always remember beating USCe, Iowa State, Ole MIss, Kentucky, Arkansas, LSU, and Bama in a row. That was a hell of a stretch.

Yeah but the point of taking all these measures is to slow and get control of the pandemic to avoid a true "pandemic" at all. I expect the increase in cases to slow by the end of the next two weeks with the way everything is being handled.

I had fun this season, but overall a pretty big waste of time, huh? All that thinking about scenarios and looking up stats. I just feel bad for the players. Seniors. The schools that rarely make March. It's not a small thing for them.

I am afraid it's just getting started here. Our testing is lacking. The only way to truly get ahead of this is to have a nationwide quarantine for two weeks. I read an article that people in China and Italy are testing positive while showing no symptoms. The same thing is happening here.

China basically had a nationwide quarantine. They think after nine weeks they are finally getting ahead of it.

Hoiberg was released, apparently tested negative for COVID-19, but I don’t see how they can keep it on when all it takes is one player/coach/staff member testing positive and the whole thing has to get shut down (see: the National Basketball Association)

. Not related to coronavirus, which is a wild-yet-appropriate thing to include during these times.
