Solid post. McCormick willed us some tonight, but there is only so much he can do. He’s all slasher. Doesn’t have the passing or perimeter shooting to really extend his successes further into the game or better yet uplift his players. Thus, he invites the defense to pack the paint and then his skillset is neutralized. Doughty just had another off night.

I say this not trying to down McCormick. All preseason I thought he would be the problem, but he hasn’t been. It’s the OTHER guys minus Wiley. If J’von had a solid 2 guard that could hit the 3, he would be fine for us. McCormick can’t shoot the 3. He needs someone to help unpack the paint.

I get that but why is that? Why are we relying on two guys that are not SEC players at this point?

Bruce dropped the ball in not bringing in another PG that could contribute right away. I know he’s stated he didn’t expect Jared to leave, but that’s on him to adjust accordingly.

Recruiting limitations play a factor, but he knew what they would be and should have had a solution.

Next year is going to be rough if we don’t get Jalen Green.

Its amazing how our 3 point shooting fell off in one season. I get that we lost Brown and the guys but we are terrible from range....

I could see us losing but its more than that. We look very disorganized and disoriented. Some very bad passes and then a couple guys will make a incredible play and get us back in it. Crazy

If the public info is correct we self banned recruiting which created the talent gap of back up Seniors and TF. Jared also surprised everyone turning pro.

In basketball a single NBA talent is a big, big deal. Losing Okoro was huge. I bet if you did the +/- of it on both the offensive and defensive end it would be in the 15-25 point range.

I don’t think he wanted to scare away Shariffe with a HS PG. I guess we could’ve gotten another GT, if we could’ve made the numbers work.

We lost Brown, Chuma, Harper and Malik which made it hard to help on other shooters which made Samir and J'von and Purifoy all better shooters. They aren't getting that help this season.

Its why basketball is so hard to enjoy year to year. Hanging all your hopes on one guy to come, play and stay healthy.

I still can’t wrap my head around how Samir went from one of (if not) the highest 3pt% last year to like 5th and shooting 30%

On a positive note Jaylin looked like an SEC athlete tonight.

He was like the 6th or 7th concern on last years team. Hitting open shots isn't that hard when you have his talent...he's being guarded this year.

Jalyn will be good. Glad he got some PT tonight. He needs to keep getting time.

That was the one bright spot for me tonight. Particularly since he played really well defensively. Given that some had questioned his defensive ability, that was nice to see.

Agreed. He's more active than Purifoy on the court. His shot looked horrible. Between him, Flan and Cambridge we have some unorthodox form coming in the future.

Agreed. Seems like Bruce gave as much time to the main rotation to get them comfortable since most were new to being the main guys, but I’m afraid we’ve neglected some of the freshman who could use some valuable PT.

We’ll just be rebuilding. Bruce has shown he can get players. Just need to keep expectations in check. I think anyone would take our record at what it is before the season started. It’s just tough because we’re frustrating as hell to watch.

He wasn’t bad guarding his man and had the awareness to get in the way of a passing lane or two.

My hope going into the season was just make the tourney and then advance past the first round. I’ll take 22-4 all day long.

The 3 fell off the cliffs of a flat earth somewhere. We knew we wouldn’t shoot anywhere as well as last year but DP, Mclemore, Doughty, Jamal Johnson, and even McCormick needed to improve.

DP and Mclemore give me a disgusting taste in my mouth. They are a part of the original group of guys that kicked off the run but have regressed to a point of uselessness.

It’s gotta be mental at this point. This team needs a sports psychologist. They aren’t this bad of a group of shooters.
