Hate to say it but I think next year will be a rebuilding year too even if we hit on most of our targets & more talented overall. 11 or 12 of the 13 players will be Sophs or freshman & 1 then upperclassmen will have little PT before next season.

I think we will struggle at times next year but Cooper makes our ceiling incredibly high. I guarantee you that.

Should we bench J’Von?

Starting 5 has been atrocious starting the games. PG play has been bad.

If you go with

Samir
Flannigan
Okoro
Purifoy
Wiley

You may end up with not enough ball handling, on the other hand, it isn’t great right now anyway and this lineup would be stronger defensively.

Should have found a grad transfer PG going into the season

Jvon is probably better coming off the bench, but we have no other real PG option right now...

We just have no bench right now outside of Anfernee... and that’s gonna he a huge problem moving forward.

No way. As bad as Jvon was last night he is still our only real ball handler. Can't trust Samir in that role. Jvon is also our only prayer defensively of staying in front of smaller, quicker point guards.

Even in a smaller role, Jvon was very up and down last year. He's just kind of an inconsistent player. That being said, he played his best ball when it mattered most. We just have to hope he can do the same this year. And don't forget he has carried us a couple of times this year (Saint Louis, MSU)

Probably not. Purifoy should continue to have his minutes limited until he can learn to play hard, understand where to be on both ends of the court, and stop jacking up 3's at the absolute worst moments late in close games.

Jvon goes hard, he is just limited by his size and shooting ability. I don't think we have a better option behind him, though.

if the class stands as is then I agree. If we add Green and a 5 like Sotto then that changes our expectations significantly.
Expectations will change but the reality of it being a rebuilding of some sorts doesn't with a team that young.

The good news is, by the time March rolls around they have almost a full season under their belts, and we've had recent evidence that our team improves significantly during the year under Bruce.

I'll be honest here and state that I'm just a casual college basketball observer. These past couple of seasons under Bruce have me firmly on the AU bandwagon. With that said, what are our chances of beating UK at home with Game day there Saturday?

I haven't watched them play more than maybe five minutes of game time this year. How do we match up? Any advantages we have? Any big disadvantages tehy could exploit us? TIA.

Yep, McLemore needs to start at the 4. Bring Danjel off the bench.

from Corey Evans on Green:
quote:

I don’t think Memphis’ poor week on the hardwood has any type of impact on Jalen Green and what he ultimately does with his college decision. Down to a final group that consists of Auburn, Fresno State, Memphis, Oregon and USC, Green will decide on a school that can afford him the biggest chance to not only win, but also maximize his abilities during his likely lone year.

Do I believe Memphis sits as the team to beat for Green? I do, but don’t underestimate Auburn’s chances. The Tigers have already signed his good friend and five-star lead guard Sharife Cooper, which could intrigue Green enough to pick Auburn. There could also be a dilemma with Memphis and its backcourt if everyone were to return next year. While Green would be the best guard on its roster, its perimeter group would be a bit crowded with Alex Lomax, Boogie Ellis, Tyler Harris and Damion Baugh all set to return.

Also, while Green did his best to deny their being a chance of choosing the professional realm instead of college for next season, if the right offer were to be given, don’t think Green wouldn’t give it a hard look.

For now, though, Auburn and Memphis sit in the best position, regardless of how the rest of the season plays out.

Evans is a good follow for recruiting, but I can promise you Jalen Green isn't even considering being worried about a crowded backcourt. He would get 35 minutes a game on any roster in the country.

Am I the only one who doesn’t understand how Penny and Memphis aren’t getting whacked for the top recruit this year that Penny paid for the whole family to relocate?

Butch McCrae knows how to work around the system better than most.

Because he wasn’t the coach at Memphis

Please no. Samir at PG is a disaster waiting to happen. He’s turnover prone at that position

No, not coach yet but he was a booster.

Agree.

Look back at some of his games this year. He has had some too high turnover games, even for a 2 guard. His ball handling is NOT as good as Jvon too.

Jvon has to be the PG, bc his quickness and his cutting ability is the best we have for now. He does well when he goes to the basket most of the time, too.
His problem is when he dribbles too much or allows the defender to get too close or if he starts to get double teamed. Then he becomes reckless b/c for some reason he speeds up.

Hopefully he calms down and with practice and film he sees how to adjust to how he is defended.

Agree. In hindsight we should have brought on a GT lead guard but we didn't so Jvon is our only option. He just needs to stop trying to do so much scoring wise especially early on games or the shot clock.

And i definitely didn't understand J'Von holding the ball so much in the OTs, and not running any offense. And a few times he would dribble near Pearl, but I guess Pearl had no problem w/ him just dribbling.

It drove me crazy...especially when he wouldn't start his drive until under 7 secs, and then couldn't get to the basket and put up a low percentage shot, or turned it over.

I wonder what our Plan C is at point guard if Samir and Jvon are limited in any way in a big game/clutch situation.

I think it’s pretty clear that Turbo is just not ready. Maybe there’s a chance we go big and let Okoro run it. Not ideal but our ball handling options are severely limited.
