It's give and take with Wiley. The light is not fully on yet. Come on big guy.

Wiley has to score when he has their PG in the post.

I like Wiley more against another big than I do against a guard. He’s going to foul them every time

They were trying to trap in the post, we should have pulled Wiley (who is not a good passer and wouldn’t exploit that they collapsed on him when we could get the ball into him) rather than try and just play bully ball through that crap.

Friday will be really tough. Davidson is always really well coached and they bring nearly every player back from a 24-10 team. We struggled defending the perimeter last night and Davidson typically has 5 guys on the court who can shoot the 3.

This team was also very experienced and well coached.

Good test for first game.

Observations:

McCormick sometimes is just too out of control. 5 TOs is too much for the PG. But man he does have the best finish to the basket, much better than even Harper.

Wiley is much better, but still noticed ball strips when he gets the ball in low. He simply doesnt seem to have strong hands.

Anferee is still learning how to play the 4. He looked lost at times.

Why was Stretch not even given minutes? Is he a RS candidate possibly?

Lot of FR talent but it is going to be inconsistent.
Okoro, CAmbridge and Johnson.

Disappointments? I know he is a FR, but Turbo Jones simply was lost (even Pearl mentioned it), and so he got only 1 min of playing time. Surprising.

It definitely is but primary ball handlers Generally have more TOs due to usage volume. If he can avg 6apg 3 TO that's solid for him

Wiley meanwhile had 5TOs. Wtf

has weak hands, but really, he just gets into too much of a hurry. Every time he catches the ball, he is immediately spinning towards the basket instead of catching, establishing himself, and making a move to get a shot off.

Yeah, hurrying, lack of awareness, etc. As a big, when you catch the ball, the first thing you need to do is find and feel the defense.

Wiley just looks uncoordinated. He is a great athlete but just not great body control

Idk, I think it's all hand-eye coordination. He has great coordination with his feet on ball reversals, with duck ins and reverse pivots to get positioning. Probably his best skill. He buries guys down there. Unfortunately when we do get the ball to him he doesn't see the help defender coming and it throws him off.

You would think after being here now for 3 years, he would know how to always feel their is backdoor defender waiting to swipe the ball the minute he pivots w/ the ball.

We've seen this too many times w/ Wiley.

I would have thought that he would have learned to not drop down w/ the ball, but keep the ball up at least waist high when he turns...JMO

I agree with a previous post that by now he should already have a feel for what the defense is going to try to do. He shouldn’t have to feel rushed either. He’s a senior, not a TF.
