- Ollie was hammered for only level 2 violations

Ollie was hammered because he lied to the NCAA.

quote:

A show-cause penalty for lower-level offenses is unusual; Ollie's three-year show-cause ruling was prompted, in large part, due to him supposedly deceiving NCAA investigators and additionally opting out of being interviewed a second time by enforcement staffers.

quote:

It was Ollie's behavior and obfuscation with the COI that led to a Level I tag against him, which brought on the worst of his punishments. On a media call Tuesday, COI chief hearing officer Joel Maturi said the committee had the option of 3-10 years for Ollie's show-cause order.

quote:

Ollie was accused of overseeing a program that enabled and/or allowed official pickup games that exceeded NCAA quotas; effectively employed a video coordinator in a coaching role; and had "a booster providing extra benefits to student-athletes."

Which falls under the umbrella of not cooperating with NCAA investigations. The NCAA has publicly taken a stance that HCs who do not cooperate, whether lying or not talking with investigators, will be punished.

Auburn's president at the time made on the record remarks that he was upset that Bruce was not cooperating/talking with Auburn's investigation. The rumor amongst Auburn's local beat is that the NCAA was amenable to Bruce's plan to cooperate after the trial. No one has ever confirmed it

There is no official confirmation I can find that Bruce has "fully cooperated" / completed his interviews nor any updated (post 2017) rumor (let alone on the record view) regarding NCAA's opinion on Bruce's action

I think we will get a very light 'punishment' relative to other schools but it is naive to think there isn't a plausible "we got screwed"

Until the FEDS gave him the go ahead. He then spoke with Leath and Greene.

Bruce not talking to Leath has absolutely nothing to do with him not cooperating with the NCAA. Do you honestly think Bruce would snub the NCAA.............considering his past dealings with them?

They played him at PG some. I’m worried he doesn’t have the handles to play that position. He’s shot the ball really well and made some good passes in the games I’ve watched.

The NCAA relies on schools to self police / set report with compliance departments / internal investigations. NCAA only investigates when they believe a school fails at self policing.

So Bruce not cooperating with AU is by extension not cooperating with the NCAA compliance process. The NCAA is trying to rid the system of coaches getting away with ignoring compliance questions

Bruc e's position was to wait until the Chuck Person trial was concluded.

The FBI was not a part of Bruce's decision advisors. Not sure why you would think the Feds, a law enforcement entity, would be

I challenge you to find an official report that Bruce has fully cooperated and/or finished his part of AUs internal investigation

I spent more time than I care to admit and either I suck at googling or that report doesn't exist

Remember that Sean Miller was cooperating fully until it went public the Zona AD just werent asking questions ergo "cooperation by default"

quote:

Do you honestly think Bruce would snub the NCAA

This is why I believe the rumor that the NCAA agreed with Bruces position to delay interviews

It wasn't that hard. It was reported months ago.

quote:

quote:

As it related to the Person and FBi scandal, Pearl and Leath were in a stand-off in the fall of 2017. Pearl was guided by his attorney to not speak to Leath about the allegations against Person, but the coach and school president finally discussed the program in the spring, and Pearl received a one-year contract extension after winning an SEC championship.

and it had nothing to do with the Person trial...............the same way that the NCAA waited for the FEDS to give them the go ahead for their investigations to begin. The FEDS run things how they see fit and it is against Federal law to discuss any parts of a FED investigation, except with your attorney.

A vague reference to talking is not necessarily cooperation with the investigation. Sean Miller and Will Wade "talked" initially too.

We disagree on finer points. I don't care to get into it anymore. For bett r or worse we will know soon what the outcome is

I already spend way too much time reading about this, talking with friends that work in the FBI (not involved in this investigation but knows how FBI operates) + thinking about AU bball. I don't want to waste time arguing over something that will be resolved here shortly

As far as ready-made contributors are concerned, look for Auburn guard Jared Harper to have a big showing as he holds big-game experience and is the type of player to eventually carve out a career in the NBA given his toughness, feel and shotmaking.

I saw some good news about Shariffe Cooper on Twitter this morning - something about him recruiting for us and one of the recruiting analysts expecting him to commit to us at any time. Anyone else see that?

Nah, but I'll try to dig around for some more info/rumors

2020 Early NBA Mock Draft Notes

quote:

Okoro is only ranked No. 36 in the RSCI, but his statistical profile and strong frame indicates he may be the most underrated player in his class. Okoro is a 6’5 wing who should make a major impact on Auburn next season. He hit 46 percent of his threes as a rising senior on Nike’s EYBL circuit and also dished out four assists per game while limiting turnovers, good enough to earn him second-team all-league honors. He projects as one of the best perimeter defenders in this class, using his length, strength, and quickness to keep offensive from the basket. While his free throw percentage of 68 percent is cause for concern, his true shooting percentage of 65.8 percent was one of the best on the circuit for a perimeter player. His projects as a high-IQ, two-way wing.

SB Nation Early 2020 Mock Draft

quote:

Notes from Hooks

Non Performance Notes
-F "Stretch" Babatunde Akingbola is expected by everyone to make it to campus this season. "Progress" is being made

- G Tyrell Jones and G Javon (J'Von?) are being held out of contact drills due to inj recovery

- G Tyrell "Turbo" Jones has been making 'incredible' progress after surgery and already able to shoot around. Estimated return for contact in ~1 month

quote:

Practice / Performance Notes

Returning Players

- C Austin Wiley looks as 'heatlhy and fit as I have ever seen him.' Aggressive and played through contact (sure) with an emphasis on improving getting the ball and finishing.

-G Samir Doughty shooting the ball very well and with confidence. He seems locked in

-F Danjel Purifoy is making strides and shows progress towards improving body composition.

New Players

- G/F Isaac Okoro currently on the "starting 5" at the 3. He stood out on defense and skill "going down hill and in passing" while solid on open shots.

- Expects Allen Flanigan to contribute this year as a 'glue guy.' Great athlete who can play above the rim, fundamentally sound and solid on open shots.

- F Jaylin Williams seems to be a project but flashed a high ceiling. Good athlete + frame

I am really really concern about our PG this season - McCormick looked really good in the tournament but we don’t have a significant sample size for him. Really sucks that Cooper won’t be reclassifying.

Javon Franklin the JC commit. Not McCormick.

So who is expected to be our starting five this year? Forgive me as I don’t really know all the positions:

Okoro
McCormick
Wiley
Doughty
Purifoy?

Jerry Meyer predicted Kessler to Duke. That’s not promising.

Ill back up Chin with a few things from reading some sites:

Jay Tate continues to say there’s a surprise PG that will be on the team at some point. Thinks it’s Cooper not reclassifying, but graduating early like Wiley did and joining the team in December.

Very reputable poster (jhead) predicted Cooper, Stone, and Kessler to commit to AU by the end of July - If so, it’s going to be an interesting couple of weeks. Lot of people think it’s us or Duke for Kessler. Maybe having Powell will push it over the finish line for us since they’re good friends?

Not getting Cooper would be beyond disappointing at this point. Rivals national guy had this to say in an article on who the next big commitment is:

“I'm going to go with Sharife Cooper popping for Auburn at some point in the near future. I'm honestly not even sure he's visited any other schools throughout the recruiting process. He's been to Auburn numerous times, and I'm told spent a lot of time recruiting for Auburn on its big recruiting weekend at the beginning of June.”

After that, who knows what happens. Boston and other 5*s you don’t say no to but we’ll be in a spot to be really selective.

The 2021 squad could really be something special...

Cooper
Stone/Powell
Okoro
??? Williams probably
Kessler
