Not trying to be a dick, but our fans getting stupid shite in their head like “regular appearances in Final 4 Elite 8 “ is the kind of shite that will permeate through a novice fanbase via forums and that leads to ridiculous expectations and running of a coach.

I hear ya bruh.. but our best years are ahead of us. Believe that... because we're making our own history. You're right. We aren't Duke.. but how exactly did Duke become Duke and when? We are working everyday to be special.. and recruiting impactful players has become the norm these days.. bruh.

Final 4’s aren’t routine for Duke

Dont know how old you are, But Duke went to the Final Four 10 times from 1986 - 2004. Thats every other year

They went in 86, 88, 89, 90, 91, 92 & 94. 7 times in 9 years. It's doable.

He is referencing that Duke has only made 2 Final Fours in the past ~15 seasons.

Making the Final Four is extremely difficult to do even for elite teams with elite coaches who recruit at an elite level

What does the last 15 years have to do with anything?

The fact is that making a Final Four every 3-4 isn't as difficult as projected if you're consistent and have a program in tact.

Auburn made the Final Four and they had a TOUGH draw. One day they'll be better than this.
Coach K is in his 70s, Roy Williams is too. Bruce is in the next tier to take over. And his personality will take him over the top

Off topic but what do you guys think turned this thing around for Bruce? His first few years here we were terrible on the boards, played shitty defense, and shot a terrible FT %. The last 2 seasons FT% has been very respectable defense this year was outstanding in spurts, and we rebounded with the best of them.

Do you think it took guys 2-3 years to buy into what he was coaching? Was our culture of terrible bball just engrained in these kids? Or...I wonder if Bruce changed some things up.

Just curious..

It just takes time to get talent in and change a culture that expects to lose. He had to basically start from scratch and use jucos and transfers in the beginning just to field a roster.

Despite what you hear people say, you can't build a roster in a couple of years in basketball. It takes time to get the talent, get them seasoned and get your system in place. It's one thing if there is some type of base to start with, Pearl had to start from nothing.

I thought those 15 and 16 teams were more talented than they played.

There were a few individual talents for sure but none of them wanted to play defense and they all wanted to get theirs on offense. We’ve fixed by getting not only more talented guys but also guys who would work hard and buy in. No coach could have made the first couple of teams work.

Bruce Pearl: Making Final Four changed recruiting for Auburn

quote:

It was the second to last day of full and open recruiting, and the recruiting calendar, which is different this year, isn’t the only thing that’s new for head coach that is fresh off taking his team to a Final Four.

“I think the difference is more doors are opened,” Pearl said. "... I have definitely been in some schools and some homes of some kids that would have been out of our reach that now are potentially within our grasp.

quote:

So you get the picture. Auburn is looking at a lot of five-star talent, after the Final Four run, which, ironically, included almost nothing resembling a five-star high school recruit.

Pearl did add that actually being able to get those kids to pick Auburn is a different matter, and certainly challenging.

“I sell Auburn,” Pearl said. “You know, I sell Auburn athletics, and don’t hold us against us that men’s basketball hasn’t been there, because guess what, football has. Softball has, baseball has, you know, swimming, diving, all that, it’s the same thing. And now our basketball program is in a position where now it’s time to go 10 All-Americans.”

That’s a bold proclamation for Pearl and an Auburn basketball program. Having 10 players of that caliber of high school talent. But judging by where he’s spending time recruiting, and the normal confidence that Pearl carries, it’s not too surprising.

The Tigers had no freshmen in the Class of 2018, which Pearl said was by design. But it will have five incoming or the Class of 2019, and Pearl said he expects very strong classes for the two years that follow. And a lot of it might all be because of what happened from the season that brought in no true freshmen scholarship players.

quote:

“Fortunately our program is going to be in a position where we’re going to have opportunity,” Pearl said. "Next year is going to be a team of seniors and underclassmen. It’s going to be a mix of lots of veterans and lots of rookies, not that much in between. After those seniors go, the following year this class is important, but we’ll be a really young team and hopefully a really talented young team.”

.... You serious?

KT Harrell and Tyler Harris are the only two players that would be in the rotation from those teams

Chad Prewett elevated to asst. coach

quote:

When Auburn placed Ira Bowman on suspension following his alleged involvement in a bribery scheme, it begged an obvious question. Would director of operations Chad Prewett be elevated to an assistant coach again — repeating a cycle that happened last season when then-assistant Chuck Person was arrested and fired.

quote:

The correct answer to that question, is yes — though Pearl wouldn’t answer it on that day — and the release he referred to made no mention of Prewett. AL.com learned about Prewett’s elevation on April 30, nearly seven weeks after Prewett was moved into the assistant coach position. It’s important now, as Auburn is closing the final week of open recruiting for the summer. He has the ability to go out and recruit, and fill in for any role that a full-time assistant can.

quote:

Pearl was also asked if Prewett could stay in a full-time assistant role if Bowman, who has now been on paid suspension for 51 days, is not brought back.

Pearl did not answer that question.

So it’s unclear exactly what the difference is with Prewett serving as an assistant coach, as opposed to a full-time director of operations. This is what Pearl said of Prewett’s role the first time he took the position.

“The one thing is it’s now going to allow him to do is be on the floor and have a voice on the floor whereas before he couldn’t,” Pearl said about Prewett’s role when the same situation presented itself in October 2017. “... There’s not a tremendous urgency to have assistants be focused on recruiting.”

quote:

Prewett had the assistant job for the entire 2017 season, until Wes Flanigan and Bowman were hired. And now that Bowman is out, Prewett became an assistant coach again through the NCAA Tournament, and now into the summer recruiting season.

North Carolina just added a grad transfer from William & Mary, maybe that helps Auburn with Rayjon Tucker if he stays in school

Tyler Harris? No way. Who is he taking minutes from? Was probably the worst defender in the SEC
