Man.. with a healthy Chuma, we are a legitimate threat to win the whole dadgum thing. Absolutely sucks for the team and the kid

I know. Got damn it. I had thought only a few moments before the injury we were better than I thought and could go the distance. I feel responsible for this.

I think this team can rally around it on Sunday. It’s just going to change how we defend in a big way, and feels like we will need some combination of Wiley, Purifoy, and Spencer to pick up that slack.

I'm trying to find my quote from a few weeks ago on this thread when everyone was melting and I said quit your bitching guys we not only are going to make the tournament but we will blow unc out by almost 20. I cant find it yet. I'll keep looking.

We need to eventually get around to discussing/fully appreciating the players who were "bargain bin" recruits. Specifically Bryce Brown, Jvvon McCormick and Malik Dunbar
We give the coaches a lot of credit, deservedly so, but they can only "lead the horse to water, they can't make it drink"
We've talked about their progress, but it is game to game, not "beginning to end" discussion
Bryce Brown: Best Offer UNC Charlotte
Offense:
Bryce Brown went from ~24% 2FG combined FR/SO seasons to ~50.5% 2FG his SR season. That is a massive improvement that gets overlooked as Bryce has been asked to have the ball in his hands more often
Defense:
Bryce's early career, he was a plus on ball defender but struggled fouling opponents. Lanier rightfully criticized the stupid fouls as Bryce went 3.9 and 3.3 fouls per 40min in his FR & SO years respectively
Bryce's senior season he continues to be a great perimeter defender but has done it without fouling. At 1.8 fouls per 40min, Bryce is ranked #100 nationally
Jvon McCormick: Best Offer Unknown
We all know this story. Early this year, we so a quick guard with loose handling, struggled finishing especially against rim protectors, committed fouls and turned the ball over.
In the past 5 games, McCormick saved our NCAAT vs NMSU and likely our SECT Championship as Harper struggled
Malik Dunbar Best Offer Unknown
Malik Dunbar's locker room presence alone was worth his scholarship. Almost every player at some point this year references how important he is as a spark plug / positive vibes guy
Dunbar though has had a huge on court improvement
2FG%: 48.3% -> 58.2%
3FG%: 34.6% -> 35.9% on more volume
BLK%: 2.9 #425 nationally
STL%: 2.7 #230 nationally
DReb%: 16.6% (was #18 SEC play)

The improvement McCormick has made from game-1 to game-39 is really hard to put into words. Backup PG has gone from the teams biggest weakness (by a mile) to one of its biggest strengths.

Basketball note
Before Purifoy drained his shots, he was telling Doughty his knee was bothering him a little
Obviously it didn't bother him to affect his ability to step up but something that is worth keeping in mind

Player development. Bruce is unreal in evaluation and development.

Yep. For some reason Bruce has this reputation for being an elite recruiter.. which in a sense he is, but it’s not because he nabs a bunch of 5 and high 4 stars. Even if you look at his recruiting classes at Tennessee it’s the same deal. He is an elite recruiter because he picks the perfect guys for his system more often than not, and he only offers guys he knows will work hard and reach their potential.. and once he signs them, he does a good job developing them.

I sometimes think its a reality of SEC fans understanding of football recruiting. We tend to get excited for 4 stars in football because so many go on to be so good, but in basketball there is generally a signficant difference between the 15th ranked recruit and the 40th from a pure talent standpoint. To your point Bruce is amazing at recruiting to his system and developing guys.
Football can be a bit skewed because kids bodies can change so drastically and the talent they play against isn't equal. Where in Bball...you basically know what he will be like at 16-18 years old and if he is a decent recruit he's playing AAU against the best so the comparison is easier.

If they made a movie about it, people would say it’s too corny... beating Kansas, unc, and UK... wheeling in our best player at halftime who blew his knee out.. winning in OT.
It’s unbelievable.
It’s unbelievable.

I read that Calipari was 37-0 in NCAA Tournament games when leading at the half.
Was.
