There’s a lot of support for him on this board and I want to buy the hype. I’ve read his records at ULL and I know his path to becoming a HC... but what makes him the right fit for AU?

You read his record and don't see why he could work?

I think that some young energetic blood with no ties to AU would be a breath of fresh air for our program.

Take a look at the staffs he's been on. Take a look at what he's accomplished as a HC and where he is when he did it. Check some of the video interviews with him on Youtube at ULL.

I think this guy is going to be highly successful at the next level. However, I vaguely remember feeling that way about Derek Dooley, so....

What is your concern with Napier?

Dooley was 17-20 in 3 years at LA Tech

Napier is 27–11 in 3 years at Louisiana

I think the only strike against him is Dabo didn't let him retain OC duties. He got one year and did well, then his offense fell off the next year. He was fired and went to Bama.

This.

Also, do listen to some of his interviews. He sounds intelligent, knowledgeable, and relaxed. I’ve seen no evidence of gimmicky, rah-rah type foolishness, nor any preachy self-righteousness.

Sure, he may flame out on the big stage. But it really doesn’t seem likely.

We can get him cheap and not a crazy buyout.

We can, but we won't. It's the Auburn way.

Young
Apparently can recruit (even though it’s still somewhat of a question mark)
Took over a struggling program and made them damn good

If he can be a catalyst to bring in a whole team of recruits like those Bama receivers, bring him on.

He's not Gus.

He's not Steele.

Derek Dooley actually did well at Tennessee considering what they’ve had since him.

My brother and his brother Matt were fraternity brothers at West Ga. The Napiers are damn fine people.
The more I read about him and listen to him in interviews, the more he seems like a straightforward, no bullshite kind of guy.

I’m trying to imagine what it would be like having someone like that as an HC.

winning at the Univ. of Southwestern Louisiana (aka ULL) is not easy....they have not had a decent team since the mid-90's when Jake Delhomme was their QB....what Napier has done there is impressive....and from what I understand (from a friend of mine that is connected to the program) his players LOVE him, he is well respected in the community, and the alumni are very upset about the possibility of losing him

I can easily get behind Billy Napier as Auburn HC. His resume and current record as a head coach are all good.
He would light a spark under this whole program.
