Plus, Dabo was named interim HC was he not?

He was hired almost exclusively because of his recruiting ability and internal AD/booster turmoil at Clemson.

No one expected him to last more than a few years, and he was coaching for his job in 2011, AKA the year they changed offenses to spread under Chad Morris

Right, but I feel like the season before he was named full time HC, he was promoted to interim head coach when they got rid of Bowden midway through the season. So, they at least saw how he handled the team as the HC. They got some type of data on it.

This is correct. He went like 4-3 as interim and like 6-6 the next year or something

Dabo was not a good HC in his early years. The only reason he survived was due to recruiting + Chad Morris showing up

No, he probably doesn't. He knows what it takes to win on a Saturday, but he's never seen a competent coach who built a program to always win Sunday - Friday

I mean he was at AU in 04-05 and during 2010 as a GA. He's been a part of 2 of the last 3 undefeated seasons in the SEC.

Please note I am not advocating he's ready to be a head coach but he's seen how to get it done. He's also certainly seen how to not get it done so there's that too.

Difference between Dabo and Gus is Dabo has shown an ability to adapt. Gus has not. Also, Dabo continued to grow as a head coach. His 2nd season was successful, regressed 3rd season and since his 4th season has won consistently.

Those were championship caliber teams, those were no where close to being run as championship caliber programs.

I like Tubz, but there is a reason why he won 10+ games only two times despite the absurd amount of talent that played for AU under him.

Chizik, well he is a case study in how not to run a program

As floated on ITAT, he's far more interesting as an interim candidate than a guy who may get hired in a coaching search.

Not that either is likely.

It ain't easy being head coach...it takes a bit of luck. Dabo was all but run out of town after losing to WVU in the Orange Bowl. He would have been fired at Auburn IMO.

Not really he would have been given a $49 million dollar contract.

I should have been clear...before the boosters lost influence and the President personally negotiated contracts.

Nah, he lost 3 straight to South Carolina and finished the season only 2-4 including a humiliating 70-33 WVU loss (49-20 at half).

If Gus went 10-2 with losses to UGA/Bama last year, we wouldn't be in this situation
