Spring training is baseball. Spring practice is football

Right?

Yea. Someone who will update should start the official thread with practice info. Act like we’ve been here before

Yeah pretty sure this was a given.

Please don’t stick with a qb shitting the bed all game when the backup is nearly as good. I assume Nix and Gatewod have different styles

I was a little surprised to see Gatewood tagged as a consistent and accurate passer. We’ve seen so little of him and the narrative has been that he’s a runner first.

We’re only in day one of course but I think it’s a positive sign. Sounds like both guys have been putting in a ton of work

People on this board said Gatewood couldn’t throw a rock into the ocean.

Are they as consistent and accurate as Russel Wilson? Or were they the most consistent and accurate passers at practice.

I took that practice note as saying I’m the best looking dude at my office when I’m the only dude at my office.

Wont matter which one they start. The fans will be screaming for the other one within two games.

The back up QB is always the fan favorite

I agree with this as well. What I don't want to see is them rotating series. Name a starter, stick with him until he proves he can't do it, then give the other guy a chance.

I tell my brother-in-law that he's the worst brother-in-law that I have. And he is, but since he's the ONLY brother-in-law I have, technically he's the best too.

They’re freshmen.

Ok. So you dont consider Malik and Cord viable QBs. Lot of people don’t. I don’t. Lot of people didn’t think Gatewood was a viable QB as well. The fact that Gatewood is now a dude is a win.

based on the videos they're throwing to stationary targets and slant routes. if you look bad doing that move to the back of the line.

scrimmages will be crucial. I almost wish they wouldn't let Gatewood go live that way we can see how he manages in a pocket.

From Caldwell: During the team period of Auburn’s first day of practice in pads, Joey Gatewood worked exclusively with first team offense while Bo nix mixed in and got reps with the first and second string. Willis and Cord worked exclusively with the second team.

Don’t think the battle between 1st and 2nd string QBs will be over any time soon, but it’s pretty clear that Cord and Malik won’t be starting.

Marcello has some notes in his recent VIP post.

One thing I know, Willis will be at another school by the end of the summer.

Offensive line much improved Just based on the early returns from the first day in pads the offensive line is light years ahead of what the group looked like last fall in camp. Coach J.B. Grimes got the group playing well by the end of the season and so far they’ve picked up where they left off in the win over Purdue in the Music City Bowl. One of the keys for Auburn is that senior Bailey Sharp looks to be playing really well early in the spring. With a huge need for depth at offensive tackle, having him ready to go behind Prince Tega Wanogho Jr. is an important piece of the puzzle going into a season.
