Yea article quoting Dean said Iggy looked pretty natural at CB. Could be a good move for him, with still being able to use him on offense some if we need/want to design something for him.

Thing about Iggy on O is that he and Stove are basically the same - Schwartz will probably take on that roll in 2 years with his speed. If he really is standing out at CB, it may be better for him as far as being on the field.

Eta: not saying Iggy isn’t the best of that bunch but it’s a crowded spot for sure.

Bump

No way a spring practice thread should not be on the 1st page.

the next scrimmage should yield some nuggets....they're allowing some people/coaches to be there to view. I know Hunter48 and PFD (from the Bunker) will be there.

- Anders Carlson had a good day

- Asa Martin impressed when he was in today

- 1st Team OL: Wanogho/Harrell/Kim/Horton/Troxell

- 2nd Team OL: Sharp/Hamm/Tucker Brown/Manning/Ashley

- Both Quindarious Monday & Jamien Sherwood had interceptions

- JaTarvious Whitlow had the play of the scrimmage for offense reversing field on a play to break free for 70 yd TD

- Sal Cannella caught a TD pass from Malik Willis

- Will Hastings hurt his knee during scrimmage

What we heard about Auburn football’s first scrimmage of spring practice (SECCountry)
quote:

AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn football returned to Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday for the first time since the Iron Bowl, when the Tigers knocked off Alabama to win the SEC West.

Auburn held its first closed-door scrimmage of 2018 on Saturday, which was set to be a rush-heavy day focusing on the battle at running back. Starting quarterback Jarrett Stidham didn’t participate, but the scrimmage was a big opportunity for his backups — sophomore Malik Willis and freshman Joey Gatewood.

The Tigers will scrimmage once more next Saturday in Jordan-Hare Stadium before the annual A-Day Spring Game on April 7.

Here’s what Gus Malzahn, several Auburn players and SEC Country’s sources who watched the scrimmage said about what happened:

- The Tigers went 100 offense/defense plays during the scrimmage. They had four live punt returns and three live kickoff returns, along with eight live field goals.

- Auburn’s defense won this scrimmage, hands down. That’s not too surprising, especially considering the experience difference up front, but the line of scrimmage was dominated by Kevin Steele’s side.

- The defense forced five turnovers — one fumble and four interceptions. Two of the interceptions went to junior safety Daniel Thomas, and freshman safety Smoke Monday came up with another one. Malik Willis and Joey Gatewood were the quarterbacks with Jarrett Stidham sitting out.

- Malzahn was impressed with how well his defense played in the scrimmage, but he wasn’t happy with the poor ball security Saturday from his young quarterbacks. Tuesday will be a big correction day.

- Auburn’s offense didn’t have many penalties. The turnovers were the biggest concern.

- The big highlight play of the day on offense came from redshirt freshman running back JaTarvious Whitlow, who cut across the field for a long touchdown run.

- Auburn’s players raved about “Boobee” and his ability to make big plays Saturday.
Each running back got anywhere from five to 10 carries and rotated in with the first- and second-team offense. Whitlow, Kam Martin and Devan Barrett were the most impressive ones of the day, in that order.

- Auburn has given more reps focused on pass protection to the running backs than in years past. Malzahn will make it a defining factor on who wins the starting running back job.

- Redshirt freshman Austin Troxell got first-team reps at right tackle Saturday. It sounds like offensive line coach J.B. Grimes is sending a message to former 5-star Calvin Ashley. Malzahn likes the competition Grimes is generating there.

- Junior Kaleb Kim rotated with Tucker Brown and Nick Brahms at center. Kim continues to be the first one on the field at the key position.

- Big Kat Bryant was dominant up front in the scrimmage, according to a source. Don’t assume T.D. Moultry already has that Buck job locked down.

- Freshmen Asa Martin and Christian Tutt repped at punt returner with walk-on Griffin King. Martin and Noah Igbinoghene were the punt returners.

- Redshirt freshman kicker Anders Carlson hit all of his field goals in the scrimmage, including one from 52 yards. “Legatron Jr.” — or “The Bookstore,” whichever you prefer — has been impressive so far in camp.

Never you worry yourself though... by Game 4 of the regular season, Gus Malzahn will have this offense running like a finely-tuned machine!

We're having to retool almost an entire offensive line. If the defense wasn't ahead at this point we would be in trouble. Plus Stidham didn't play and I doubt QB's went live.

We could have 5 returning seniors on the OL, a returning senior QB and RB, and 4 returning senior WR and Gus wouldn't have the offense ready until at least Game 3.

Stop twisting “returning seniors” with “returning players”.

You can theoretically return 25 seniors across every team in NCAA.

This OL is without 3 starters from last year, 2 of which playerd every snap the last 2-3 years, and one of the “returner” was forced into play because of an injury.

Acting like the OL shouldn’t miss a beat is downright foolish.

Yes, it’s shocking the defense won the first scrimmage of spring practice when the offense was without their starting QB.

I fully expect us to have one of the best defensive lines in the country this year, and for it to be the trademark of what I hope to be a top 10 D this year. Davidson, Brown, Coe, TD, and Big Kat should reck havoc against an inexperienced offensive line. That's not a bad sign for this team.

Add to the fact that it's only spring practice and we are without our starting QB and it shouldn't be a surprise. I'm hoping going up against this defense all spring and fall prepares them for SEC play.
