Why doesn’t Freeze just go hire a young OC and get out the way? He can’t coach offense anymore, but he is a good recruiter with NIL money and he obviously is good with the boosters. Durkin may be the best DC in the country when it comes to identifying talent and getting the most out of them. The defense won the game yesterday. The offense didn’t do anything except run well with Cobb. Does Kiffin not have anybody he’s groomed? By far the best offensive mind in the game.

Here is an observation from yesterday’s game:

We stink on offense and it is just like the first game that CHF coached at AU, except we have better (or more expensive) players doing the stinking. If we stick with CHF we will be the #14, #15, or #16 team in the SEC every year, and I am SICK of hearing,”…we are so close….”

I would say, and I did say last week, that run well on a wet, messy field in the rain was exactly what it would take to win. How many WR's did we have slip and fall? I recall two from Singleton, though one may have been on a jet sweep.

Getting back to my point, here is the SEC sorted by upperclassmen - JR's, SR's, GR, xfers, who have been at the school at least two years in their combined two-deep (48 total players due to defensive alignment variations):

Upperclassmen
AL 27
UF 26
Miz 26
ATM 24
V 24
UGA 22
UTK 22
UTA 21
OU 20
SC 18
MSU 17
UK 16
LSU 15
AU 15
OM 15
AR 14

There are two outliers in that list of 16 teams - UF and OM. I'd say it's a pretty good predictor when combined with talent. OM has a great QB, UF didn't. AL and ATM look like the class of the conference. ATM has clearly gotten better talent than Mizzou, and that is the difference when experience is nearly equal. Mizzou gave nearly equally experienced Vandy fits with Vandy having arguably the most dynamic QB in the nation.

Now look at the sort by number of 1st year players, either xfer or true freshmen:

Comb New
UF 5
UGA 7
UTA 9
UTK 10
AL 11
ATM 11
LSU 11
OU 13
AU 15
Miz 16
SC 16
V 16
UK 17
AR 22
MSU 22
OM 24

UF and OM are again the outliers, though I was wrong earlier about the top five being single digits. UTK looks good in both, until you factor in their absence of talent.

I would look at good RPO teams and pluck one of their OCs even if you have to go and find one at a lower school. We need a game day coach that can adjust & develop the offense. Our Offense just plain sucks. Looks like our WRs don't run the routes crisp or full out when they don't think they are getting the ball.

has and will always be an issue with the mickey mouse schemes Hugh, Gus et al run. when the QB is throwing to ONE guy with no reads. the WR's not getting the ball jog off the LOS hoping to be a decoy but knowing the ball is going elsewhere.

I want to see someone with great talent who is out to make a name for themselves as an OC. The same for the OL coach. Then let Freeze do the recruiting.

88, 100%. Drop down a level and get a great mind / get disciplinarian that hold people accountable

Schools keep doing this retread thing but there are some really good coaches at the lower levels, we just have to be diligent and not hire the pretty face

Who would want to come work for a coach that is going to be getting fired and has lost the team and fans? Besides, Hugh is running the O. He had an OC in year 1. Nothing has changed on O. We suck because of Hugh.

Fully believe this is more offense philosophy than QB. Tulane lost their stud qb to duke in the portal they just threw another man in there and kept chugging along. Sure your QB can't have the yips, but play calling and offensive style sets you up more. You don't need a heisman qb. Look at how many teams bama has destroyed over the years with "game managers"

TBH, Tulane just didnt throw some random in at QB and get to it. Their guy transfered in from BYU, and could start on most SEC teams.

Very true, still goes to the point that for some reason we always think we need some stud qb but reality is these offenses make these qbs what they are. Sure there are 2-3 every year across the nation that are just incredibly talented but for the most part it's high powered offenses just plugging in a new guy every year and getting the same results

Ty simpson in our offense would probably look like daniel cobb
