I like the culture change stuff but I also feel like we hear that every coaching change.
Also, not that I’m comparing him to Pat Dye (since he hasn’t even coached a game yet) but I was also getting Pat Dye vibes from the way Harsin was trying to come across which I like. Hopefully he can at least somewhat live up to that.
I have seen things about Harsin going through all the stadium stairs, all the long days, all the workouts with the players which I think has earned him a lot of respect in the locker room. Like that.
Recruiting obviously a question but so far I like the things Harsin says. I like the things I’ve heard he does. Ready to see what he does on the field

I know every new coach talks cultural change when they first come into a new program, but I think it is very evident from the first 7 months under Harsin it is not just talk. From the strength and conditioning program, to good on good in practice, and all of the little details including showing up on time to works outs, it is pretty clear that there is a more business like approach under Harsin.
I choose to support whoever the head coach at Auburn is and I was a Gus supporter up until his last day, but it now seems pretty clear what was happening under Gus. Players enjoyed playing for him, but I think there was a much more laid back culture in the program. I know it has been discussed a lot here, but from a straight stars perspective we recruited well under Gus. But how many of those guys lived up to their hype and actually lasted in the program. I think a lot of the issues Auburn has had was that we were getting more recruits that were maybe taking advantage of the laid back culture in the program and weren't putting in the same time and effort required to actually get better and compete for Championships. That obviously wasn't the case for everyone, but it might explain a lot of the guys that left the team or never really lived up to their star potential.
Time will tell if Harsin can recruit at the level he needs to to stay competitive at the top of this league, but at least for this season I think we could see a big payoff for the guys that have bought in and put in the work this summer. There is still a lot of talent left over, and we were able to plug more holes with the transfer portal than you typically can with a coaching change. Going to be a big learning curve for the offense and defense, but I'm excited to see what this team is capable of. I think this team has a really high ceiling, especially if Bo Nix takes a big leap forward, but I also except some bumps along the way.

If these quotes are reliable, it sounds like coaches are questioning what he is doing out there right now on the recruiting trail. I hope this is not a recent quote.

Or they’re wondering the same thing everyone wondered when he was hired and has been subsequently discussed every day since
Unfortunately for all of us, it’s not a question that will be quickly answered. But the current class is trending in the right direction. Tough path ahead to impress anyone in 2022. He’s going to have to change that narrative in 2023. And he’ll have this question pinned to his forehead until it’s clear one way or another

I think this article came out a few weeks ago. I'd guess the quotes were taken before all the commits we got on July FWIW.

Reading between the lines from the quotes by the players, it seems like they didn’t really realize what a shitty staff they had until the new staff came in and actually teaches them and holds them accountable. I gather that guys like Pappoe and Nix and Shivers thrive in that kind of environment and Harsin is smart to lean in on those guys.

I make nothing of the "can he recruit" question.
Some philosophers say that sowing the seeds of doubt is the earliest method every used to attack an adversary. Guerrilla warfare before there was warfare. It's the self-fulfilling prophecy only if you believe it. I'm not sure there is anything you can do as a Recruiting Dept except have a good counter when the statement comes up on the recruiting trail.
As a head coach...focus most of your energy on winning the battles right in front of you.

The recruiting thing to me is purely a “He’s from Boise does he know how to recruit?” .

Yea. I have a friend who is a great businessman. I learned what little I know about running a small business from him. I had no idea what I was doing when I started running my first small business. He told me " you will never get anywhere trying to run your competition in the ground".
He was talking of what happens with recruiting. Or negative recruiting.

The defensive culture was changed when Muschamp became our DC. You can see it year one, and our defense has been hitting hard since then.
Remember Chiz's days? When it looked like our defense was scared to tackle Fournette?
