He was at Arizona State when we grabbed him.
So he had not proven himself as a coach and only got the job due to Being an Auburn guy. That might be fair. But we literally hired Caddy from high school and many people on this board were going to be upset if he didn’t get hired by CBH.

Caddy was a first-round NFL caliber RB coaching his natural position. Not only can he sell recruits on his career, he use his experience to provide legitimate instruction once they get on campus.
Kodi was a 2nd string QB who played one year at 3rd string WR simply because there was no other place for him on the roster. While he clearly had the ability to bring in highly regarded talent at the position, many of those players failed to live up to their expectations. Obviously this was not entirely Kodi’s fault, but he didn’t really appear to bring much to the table from an instructional standpoint.
Not saying he’s a bad WR coach, but after several years in the role I don’t think you can clearly state he is an exceptionally good one either.

Had Auburn ever had an exceptionally good WR coach?
Kodi played QB and WR in the Malzahn offense. He threw a TD and caught a TD in 2010. I could see why GM wanted him on staff.

No shite. Doesn’t change the fact that he was hired at a power 5 school.

Yes, he was hired at a P5 school...as a RB coach.
It wasn't Kodi's fault, but you had a guy brought in who only knew the HC's crappy system to essentially double down and confirm the HC's crappy system. The blind leading the blind. He never should have been hired because he offered nothing that Malzahn actually needed, but ultimately none of that mattered anyway because Malzahn was just going to do his own thing regardless so it didn't matter who the WR coach was (this was also why D.Craig clashed with Malzahn and ultimately left).
It's not Kodi's fault because all he can teach is what he knows. And all he knows is Malzahn's system. And that's kinda why Malzahn hired him.
Luckily that entire shitshow is over and Kodi landed at a great spot to learn something else.

He was easy to lure away by doubling the salary of an inexperienced coach to come home

Kevin Steele Tennessee tidbit:
quote:
Kevin Steele, who led top 20 defenses in 4 of the last 5 seasons at Auburn, is apparently still on staff but not as the defensive coordinator. An SEC East rival told FootballScoop.com something that makes a lot of sense:
“Steele is not a fit schematically based on what (the Vols) are going to do on offense. He is the type of guy to sit back and not beat himself schematically. However, I am completely against playing that way when your entire offensive game plan is based around creating possessions. You need a super-aggressive defensive coordinator to create negative plays and turnovers.”

This is a weird (incorrect) analysis. I don't think anyone in their right mind would come to the conclusion that Steele has ever, "sit back and not beat himself schematically" with as much man coverage and blitzing AU did while he was DC. I even recall of few games he may have lost AU with needless PI calls playing man and some cover 0 with the game on the line.
The only game I remember him "sit(ting) back" was LSU in 2019, and that was out of necessity. I'm not complaining about Steele or his philosophy - it works with the players to play it - I'm just pointing out that what Steele does doesn't match the author's unattributed quotes. I'll give odds that the quotes are completely made up.

Maybe metafour or Jones has more to add but it’s pretty revealing if he isn’t a DC candidate.

Apparently Eric Kiesau has joined the staff in some capacity. At least his updated Twitter account would indicate that. Harsin's former OC/QB coach at Boise State.

He’ll kill it at UCF. Easier schedule and a system that works at that level.

UCF fans don’t seem thrilled.

Orlando Sentinel reporting he's been offered, but no word if he'll accept.
