And I am a huge fan of diversity. Gus' staff was somewhat of an echo chamber, if that makes sense.

@Tomas_Verde

Source: Auburn is expected to hire Bert Watts to round out Bryan Harsin's on-field staff. Watts spent last season as Memphis' linebackers coach, and before that was Fresno State's DC for two seasons.

Not a bad hire IMO.

Bert Watts officially hired. Seems like he was a good DC at Fresno St and had them in the top 10.. Anyone know why he took a LB job at Memphis the next season?

Wasn't retained from a coaching change at Fresno.

Guessing Harsin was impressed with Bert’s Fresno state defenses he faced at BSU.

As mentioned, in 2018 Fresno was ranked #18. Phenomenal year for Fresno. Then in 2019 they won 4 games, the HC resigned, and everyone was canned

Thought that it was probably something like that.

Despite the twists and turns, I think the staff in the end has turned out about like we expected. A mix of SEC experience and high-upside G5 guys from Harsin's background.

Also I did read that Watts is supposed to coach ST.

Seems his last defense fell off badly to a ranking of 88 nationally. They were very inconsistent that year. Not trying to slam him, maybe he is a good coach. His first defenses at Fresno were very good.

And this could be DC Mason's footprint on these interviews or possible hires on defense...

I expected more from the staff hires when Harsin was saying people were texting and asking about being on his staff. No wonder they were texting him they all coached in the fricking Mountain West with him.

Yea, If anyone thinks Mason wasn't strongly involved in the defensive hires, they are kidding themselves.

I'm good with this hire as well.

We should cheering about the infusion of new blood in this program, across the board. It's been needed for a while.

Yep, I think it is a fine hire. Dude has some ties to the state of Florida as well. Has had some success but all at smaller places.

I'll let Mason do his thing. He will be heavily involved with the defensive backs, so that will help Ethridge grow as well.

I think it should be a solid staff, we will see how it all works out.

Leaders lead. They don't see what the consensus is and then try to pacify. Harsin is looking more and more like a leader everyday. Hiring coaches that fit the purpose and mission. I've never heard of the guy, but I like the move a lot because it demonstrates that our head coach has a vision and a process and he intends to lead by example.

Secondly, there is off field stuff with T-Will that was going on and was talked about before Malzahn was even fired

I'll save all my critiques until after I see the product on the field. I'm sure people are aware by now what I think of a few of these hires.. I'm glad the coaching search is finished though and I'm rooting for Harsin and hope he got this thing right. If they win games this is will be forgotten anyway.

Harsin is a serious guy, and you gotta admit, Bert looks serious
