I am surprised at this. Surprised he'd take it over the same position at AU. Wonder if AU even offered or if Harsin/Mason preferred Zac over him?

Either way I am happy with Zac.

Have no idea if true or not but I heard he may have burned a bridge or two when he left

It's not the same position. Derek Mason is a DB coach which means that it's too much of a step back for T-Trob to go from being a DC to Auburn where he wouldn't even be the lone guy handling the DB's. Thats why he's going to Miami over Auburn. Notice how Etheridge was hired as "Cornerbacks coach" and not as "Defensive backs coach".

Is this the new standard response for the board any time something happens they don’t like?

Well, we can't blame JJ anymore or Gus meddling with the offense. So you have any other suggestions?

Tom Green
@Tomas_Verde
Jeff Schmedding is expected to join Auburn’s staff as inside linebackers coach, per source. Schmedding spent the last two seasons as Boise State’s defensive coordinator. Also coached inside linebackers last season for the Broncos.

Jay G. Tate
@JayGTate
Hearing that Jeff Schmedding has been hired to coach ILBs.

From a few minutes ago. Not exactly news, but maybe official announcement coming. Also ILB may indicate T-Will is sticking around for OLB.

Also, thanks to whoever approved me

All these co-coordinators and co-position coaches. It sure does seem like there’s going to be a lot of cooks in the kitchen next season.

Anyone feel like Twill is just gonna say no to the OLB job? He was already coaching them + ILB, right? If he can get a DC job at a smaller school, I’m not sure he’s want to downgrade

Auburn Football Twitter just announced it. ILB and Defensive Run Game Coordinator ... which seems like a title to make up for him not being DC anymore

I’m not talking about titles. I’m talking about number of coaches. I just don’t remember that many co-position coaches previously but I definitely could be wrong

Its the same number of coaches as before, just broken up differently.

Etheridge CB & Mason S
Schmedding ILB & Someone else OLB/BUCK/"Edge"
DL coach

That's what I'm betting the configuration looks like.
